MrCool\" post_id=\"2009169\" time=\"1608646578\" user_id=\"187777:If it’s purely for O level, I’ll stick to Swiss cottage sec sch. Reason being that both schools will lead to the same outcome. One thing to note is that Swiss cottage is coed and SJI is a boys school. So you need to also ask yourself whether your son will thrive in which environment. Personally I prefer a coed school.
SJI vs Swiss cottage:
Parents, need advise. My son met COP for SJI o level (non-affiliation) (247), but still not shortlisted and allotted to Swiss cottage. Now I am in a dilemma whether to appeal or not.
I see many benefits being in Swiss cottage like proximity to home, literally no fees, more subjects offered compared to SJI etc., SJI is independent school (where I need to pay some fees), 40 mins travel time etc., I understand, in terms of outcomes for O-level, both schools produce similar results.
Is still SJI better than swiss cottage? What are the advantages of being in SJI?

Yes that's what I meant. Thanks Pen88n. I am never good with words. Sorry if I confuse you 12mum.
12mum, I do not think Bigfoot meant it the way you have interpreted - you have probably misinterpreted his explanation.
All students who have received COs from any schools are able to exercise their options by the Oct deadline set for DSA Option Preference. However, there are cases whereby the students have already decided on their preferred choice, and in such scenario, if the student is willing, they can inform the school they want to reject that they are not choosing the school despite being offered the confirmed offer. In this case, the school can then offer the vacancy to the WL student next in line and his WL will be converted to CO.
Let me try and give example. Suppose student Z received three CO from school A B and C. But his grandfather, father, brothers, uncles and cousins are all from school A. Student Z is very sure he will choose A. But he choose not to decline the offer from B and C because he wants the option open. Nothing wrong with that. It's his choice after all. Though this might cause anxiety to those parents on the waiting list. To put it simply when he received three CO it means three places have been reserved for him. He can only go to one of the three. That's why those on WL has very high chance of getting a place after psle. (Well this is just my guess)
I know a teacher used to complain to me. She offer DSA to a student thru sports. The parents promised that they would choose her school as first choice. But they ended up choosing another school. So she lost one place in her sports. She could have given that place to another player. She said some parents are simply so selfish and made empty promises. Setting bad example to their kids.
Another classic example. I have seen parents putting CO as first choice and WL as second and third choice. This is strange isn't it? I mean if I'm sure I'll take the CO, I would have given the WL to another student. Because when u put CO as first choice, what do u think the outcome will be? Those students who just missed the WL might have a chance of these parents decline right from the beginning.
Just my TCW. -

My son tutor also said the same thing! But there is no such thing! All students who are offered CO only need to get into the express stream. From the past few years PSLE, it is around 188-190. So rest assure it won't happen. I am very sure about this.My son Tutor told him that even get a CO still need at least 240 Tscore to enter the IP course. My son was so shocked.
May I know is that true? What is the min Tscore he has to score for psle? -

Does you DS get a WL1 or WL2 from hci?
Mumjc2000,
I am a new bird.this week my DS also received WL1 from HCI. May I know when your DS received the Converted CO? before Psle result or after? Thanks.[/quote]This really depends. There are parents who received CO from HCI but they are very sure they won't choose HCI because they were offered CO from another school. These parents will have a choice whether to inform HCI whether they want to turn down the offer. They have until end of August to do so. By declining the offer, it will open up additional places and so HCI will look for their WL1 students to offer. If that is the case, you will get converted to CO by end of the month (depending also on the order of your WL1). But I do know many parents choose not to decline as they would like to \"keep their option open\".
If your WL does not convert to CO by end of this month, then u have to wait till release of PSLE to know the outcome. From what I know, the conversion rate from WL1 to CO is pretty high for HCI. -

IP - Integrated Programme is a full six year programme. Your DD would not be allowed to change school during the six year. Unless u have very very good reason to do so. Refer to the link:Wonder if anyone can share with me on what exactly is IP course? Does it mean anything if my DD is under Science domain? I can't attend the tea reception by Cedar so can't attend the talk. Hope someone can guide me in it.
Also if accept under DSA, after 4 years of secondary education, we cannot switch JC too right?
Thanks in advance.

RE: DSA 2016
For those who are wondering why RI did not offer CO or WL to their DS, I have a reliable source who told me that the schools have been informed by MOE to allocate more DSA places to those who are good in Sports/Arts. So if I am not wrong, most of these schools have reduced their places for those doing academic DSA. So if your son got the offer, well done. If your son did not get it, it doesnt mean that he is no good. Just have to go through the PSLE route. Good luck to all!
