The top boy in my DS class will be going to 3B. Anyone else DS is going to 3B as well? I don’t believe in randomly assigned as it doesn’t make sense. If they choose to split then there must be some reason. It may not be purely academic. If it is academic, then it will be quite obvious. My two cents worth.

All P3 classes are of mixed ability.

Yup. I also heard that it is random - from current year’s P3 parents.

Yes, it’s random allocation for p3.

When allocating the students to the classes, no matter how random you may claim there will definitely be a method how this randomness comes about. It's the method of randomness we are Namie was referring I believe. I agree with her. Even if you use the computer to assign, it will still prompt you for parameters. If done manually, then who are the one assigning? FTs?

Anyway, no point speculating. It really doesn't matter. What matter at the end of the day is as long as our DS are happy with their new found friends. 🙂

I think it’s not random and they make the form teachers break up the supposed cliques. My boy’s clique has been split up and he will be in the same class as the top boy from his class. Not 3B. So they mix up all the top boys too.

Last year we were told that the cliques would be broken up. When we saw the new p3 class lists, we were amazed at how thorough the splitting up had been done!

Oh, and the top three boys were not assigned to the same class. Our p3 class has a few no. 1s, 2s and 3s from across the p2 classes.
This year, most of the p3 classes had a good number of kids who went through the gep screening tests (round 1).

Today is award presentation day and once again my son is now a prize winner. I am so upset that I almost cried. I felt even worse when he happily told me he heard there is GEP exam in P3 and there will be a chance he can transfer to another school if he passes. I just looked at him, don’t know what to say.

There's is this Chinese saying 小时了了,大未必佳。So don't be discouraged by his results. Continue to encourage your DS. Praise him for what he achieved and not to scold him for what he failed to achieve at this point of his life. I feel that sometime as parents (myself included) we put too high expectation on our kids. Education is a lifelong process. Instilling in him the love for learning is more important at this time.

Anyway enjoy the holiday with him and family. 🙂

At work, we shortlist scholars based on consistency in results from primary to college, and eventually scholars can get promotion and ranked as top performers even when they are not at work (on study leave), appointment holders get more medical benefits than rank and file staff, privileges in being able to claim for things that policy dictate are not claimable, etc. That is when we realised how important results are.
