Hi Carol, phase 2B route that almost confirmed a place there.Cheryltsh:
Hi Parents,
I would like to enroll my boys to Maris Stella. My boy is born in 2009 and will register for P1 in 2016.
Can anyone share with me on how to enroll into Maris Stella? I have heard that within 1km there's no need to ballot.
I'm very new and not very sure of the phases.
Can any kind soul mummies pls help n share?
Hi,
I m registering next year for my boy too. Also within 1 km to MSH. We are going by the Phase 2B route. Yourself?
Basically, for P1 registration. There are 5 main phases:
Phase 1: for siblings of current students.
Phase 2a1: for parents alumni.
Phase 2a2: for parents who are not alumni, kids who has siblings who used
to study in that school and staff of the school
Phase 2b: parents volunteer, GRLs, clans or church endorsement
Phase 2c: for all kids who are not able to register in the above phases.
Historically, there's no balloting for kids staying within 1 km for MSH. But u must take note that this year there's a reduction of 30 places for P1 cohort as compared to previous years. Also, next year Residents of Bartley residence can use the address to register for a place at MSH too. So, there's a chance that 1 km may need balloting if the applications exceed the places available.
Statistics are just for reference. Situations changes. So have to play by ears sometimes.
Hope the above helps.
I'm now not within 1km, but planning to rent a place first, when my sons confirm a place at MSHS, then I will switch house to stay nearer to MSHS.
Don't know if this is a good move. If I'm going in as within 1km, which phase am I going by? -
Is there a fix quota of intake for P1 every year? And if so, is there any fix quota tight to each phases?

Hi,
I assume u have no kids at MSH now and ur husband is not an old boy too. So Phase 1 and Phase 2A are not applicable to you.
If u are a parent volunteer at MSH now or is a GRL or a catholic church member, then Phase 2B.
If u don't qualify for the above, then Phase 2C.
Do note that distance is applicable in each phase. But before u apply your home distance to the school, you must know which phase applies to u first. In general, if you can apply in the earlier phases, u will have an advantage, more so if you are within 1km. -
Updates for MSH at 12pm
Admin says balloting for application >2km. -
Thanks Carol for the prompt reply. So i think i can only fit into 2C.
I understand from MOE website that there are 40 vacancies reserve for 2B & 2C divided equally. So at least there is 20 vacancies for 2C right?
>2km means even within 1-2km also don’t need to ballot? -
I thought i saw 53 places for 48 registered. Didn’t know now more than 2km need to ballot…

Yes, u are right. All schools will have at least 20 spots for Phase 2B and Phase 2C respectively.
Nope. > 2km does not include those within 1-2km. Those staying within 1-2km for Phase 2B seems ok this year too. -
Oh, that was the figure for yesterday! Looks like balloting for more than 2km is a sure thing.

Just called the admin, yes, balloting required for > 2 km. They haven't finished tallying the number, said to call back tomorrow for the details.
