Hi jesyeo,
Holiday week passed by so fast! We had enjoyed ourselves but very tired after the Bintan trip. My DD hasn't even started preparing for her Oral Test. Need to start pushing her now.Tinkerbelle:
Hi everyone,
Hope everyone had a nice holiday.
First day back at sch for the new term.....how is everyone's DD's first day back at sch? Time really flies....already the last term for the year.
Welcome back. Glad to hear you and your family had a nice getaway. :imanisland:
Yes, DD came home yesterday and told me they are having poem recitation & oral exams soon! She's not prepared for it yet so it looks like we'll need some intensive revision for oral, especially for Chinese. Time to get down to business...keke -

Hi jesyeo and LLX04,LLX04:
She has been joining dance club CCA since Jan so we are looking forward to see what she has been learning and maybe throw her some encouragements. She wants to discontinue her dance club and join other CCA next year. :bonk:
Hi LLX04,
My DD also in Dance Club and doing the performance during P1 Orientation. But too bad we won't be able to see them performing right?
Why your DD wants to discontinue? And which CCA she wants to join next year?
You can go and watch your DD perform for the P1 Orientation. They'll need to perform twice that day, once for the parents and once for the P1 students.
If you watch the performance with the other P1 parents, you'll get to sit down in the hall. If you don't want to sit through the P1 orientation once again, you can come later when your DD perform for the P1 students (about 1 hour before dismissal) and stand behind the hall to watch. But parking will be an issue if you come later. Enjoy. :rahrah: -

Hehe, it's just her character. She is super fickle minded type who always think the other CCAs are more interesting. She enjoys dance club so far and not sure what she wants to join.LLX04:

This year the SA2 oral exams have been brought forward to week 2. For the past few years, it was held in week 4. I'm surprised that this year, there was such short notice given for oral exams. :skeptical:

FYI, there'll be NO CCA this Friday morning for P1 & P2 as it's the PSLE Listening Compre. exams. Good news for those with CCA on Fri...can sleep longer...keke -

Your DD sounds like my DD1. She changed CCA every year because she wanted to try something new every year.....keke. I think it's great for kids to be exposed to many activities...main thing is, they must enjoy what they do. :rahrah: -
hello. I’m new to Kiasu parents. my girl will be going to Marymount convent school next year. we are Eurasians and i’m wondering if i should let her study Chinese or not take any 2nd language at all. i took Chinese myself back when i was in school but it was tough and very embarrassing for me. so my dilemma is whether to let my daughter take up Chinese. Any non-Chinese families out there who is letting your daughter take Chinese?
-
jane, welcome! Is it possible for your dd to be exempted from taking exams for second language? If your dd can be exempted from it as an exam subject, my personal opinion is that it's a good idea to learn it for fun. My guess is that with China becoming so important in the global economy, the Chinese language will also grow in importance in the years ahead. Let her learn it for fun, so that she can speak and understand :rahrah: During my days in junior college, I had a Indian classmate who speaks Mandarin and even took the AO level exam... I thought that was pretty cool. It's pretty common for non Chinese to learn Chinese these days. My friend's dd is in a SAP school, and she tells me many Indian and Malay families send their kids there to do Higher Mother Tongue! But because they don't have a foundation, they sign up for intensive drilling at those Chinese schools like Berries and Tien Hsia, or Beijing etc...

I had a student who was exempted from 2nd language by MOE.
What the school arranged was to let her join the Chinese class like other girls in her class. She took the same tests and did the same homework. By P5, her parents realised that she could cope very well, they wrote in to MOE to let her take the PSLE exams. She got an A* for Chinese at PSLE. -
That’s the positive side of it, but on the contrary, I’m really afraid she can’t cope. She’s been learning Chinese since Nursery and I’ve also put her in tuition classes… But the thing is, she doesn’t really enjoy the subject. Time is running out and I’m really worried as I can’t come to a decision.
