Yes, the P1 & P2 have topical tests during the year, followed by a year end exam.

MCS is one of the few sch which stream their P2 students. Kids that do well in P1 will go to the top 2 classes, where teaching will be pegged at a pace that will further stretch their potential. πŸ˜„

Thought I could :siam: exams... ha ha but well I guess this will make her work harder...

Haha.....cannot siam...but not to worry, the tests won't be too stressful for P1 & P2. Only the yr end exams got more to revise.

hello. I'm new to Kiasu parents. my girl will be going to Marymount convent school next year. we are Eurasians and i'm wondering if i should let her study Chinese or not take any 2nd language at all. i took Chinese myself back when i was in school but it was tough and very embarrassing for me. so my dilemma is whether to let my daughter take up Chinese. Any non-Chinese families out there who is letting your daughter take Chinese?

              Hi jane-lewis,
              :welcome: :rahrah: :welcome:

I think it'll be good to expose your DD to Chinese. Instill interest at a young age and with lots of encouragement, your DD will enjoy Chinese. MCS has a few Indian students and students of other nationalities who take up Chinese as their second language despite their parents not speaking Chinese. πŸ˜‚

If you intend to apply for exemption from MT, I think it might be a good idea for you to check with MOE regarding your DD's eligibility for exemption from MT for P1. Another MCS forummer (I think it's RainbowFairy) mentioned before that her elder DD got exemption from MT when they returned to Singapore from NZ when her DD was in P3 but her P1 DD was was not exempted from MT as she started in P1.

Hi Jane, i am an indian n donot speak chinese. But my DD is well versed in chinese since she learnt frm her childcare frm 18 mths onwards. Still contemplating whether to take up CH or TML (tamil) for MT. DD is gng P1 in 2012.

                Hi michyms,
DD1 found the maths paper relatively easy so hopefully she didn't make too many careless mistakes...

Today was her Chinese paper. Chinese is not her forte :nailbite: .... but luckily, she found the paper manageable.

                Thanks for your support. :hugs:

                    Hi Jane Lewis

Welcome. Generally we felt MMC does not really emphasize much on MT-Chinese. Our DD’s MT lessons and homework is about 20% or less of all subjects and you can feel MT topics are not treated as impt as English or Maths. Not sure if this is the same feelings as rest of the parents though.

Tinkerbelle, I am so glad to hear that your dd found the paper easy! I have been kaypohing around the PSLE Maths thread, and I found the questions so hard (I guess its because I'm not \"trained\" to think that way back in primary school days) that I was starting to panic though dd is not even in primary school :faint: But since your dd thinks its manageable, I am beginning to think there is hope πŸ•Ί

Worriedparent74, my dd is not even in P1 yet, so I do not know anything about the MT. However, once I heard a Chinese tuition teacher who has an MCS student in P4 comment that though it can't be compared to the SAP schools, the Chinese standard in MCS is not low either. I guess that is some consolation... but now its for us parents to do personal chinese \"immersion programmes\" to push up their individual standards
