                Hi,

I wanted to find out more about MCS in terms of academic, racial distribution (Chinese, Indians, Malaysians) and why the low in take. We are hoping to get our daughter in to RGPS as our first choice (since we live within 1km) but if that is unsuccessful we would like to consider MCS.
Can someone explain why there are still quite a good number of intakes for P2C?

                Thanks.
                hi

some schools are more popular than others, depending on what one's subjective criteria of a \"good\" school is. for mcs, it can hold its own based on past psle results, but it is not a branded school like some others are.

the racial distribution question, wow, so if the school is more of race A, that would affect your choice positively or negatively?? on thin ice. 🙂 anyway, the demographics of most schools reflect the demographics of singapore.

Oh I can’t agree more with Ohdaddy. Initially we tried registering our dd for SCGS given that it is within walking distance. It happened that for that year, we were booted out during the inaugrual balloting for Phase 2C as there were many PRs who lived within 1km of the school then. Our hearts dropped when we heard that our dd was not selected. We then went straight to Marymount to register her in Phase 2C supplementary. With no regrets. Dd is now thriving very well, better than some SCGS girls of her age. MCS has lived up to its name to groom girls to become ladies of grace. So, do not think that only pupils of elite schools can excel. We should groom our daughters not just academically but holistically be a all rounder. MCS is one such good schools.

I can’t think of more reasons why the intake is low for MCS other than there’s no affiliation to secondary schools and of course there aren’t many young families within 1km of school compound. I may be wrong here. But just look at Braderell Heights and you will know what I mean.

Hope the above is useful. Always believe that your dd can do well and the school is just there to facilitate the learning journey.

Agree with you, Hoylji, majority of people actually would pick a school within walking distance if possible and besides Thomson 800 and Braddell View, there aren’t any other residential estates around MCS.

I would say the majority of the MCS girls live more than 1-2km away from the school and some even at other further parts of Singapore. Parents who pick MCS believe in its holistic education and strong religious values and are willing to travel the distance for their kids to come here.

                      Hi mums and dads

Can anyone share with me whether MCS has a wide range of CCA, esp sports? I am considering MCS in P2C and my daughter is quite into sports so I hope she can have opportunities to excel in sports like gym, tennis and swimming.

                      Thanks!
