Booklet K -

You can request to see the booklet K. Usu when we have the Meet the parents session, you can check with the teachers before hand, to show you your child's booklet K. Yes, you are not allowed to bring to bring it out of school or take it home. Just a quick look, teachers are ok with it. 🙂
This Booklet K is so MYSTERIOUS!! How interesting, hahaha... so each child will have a booklet K (why K, not X or Y or Z) or the teacher holds a master copy?

Thanks for the info!! My girl ever tried to go into the library one of the afternoons to do her work while waiting for me to pick her but was told that she couldn't go in... I am wondering why... is it just that day only?? Or the library doesn't allow studying and doing work?
Welcome!
It's probably bcos there's CCA in there then
Ya I thought so too... so the kids are allowed to do their homework and revision in the library?

I am quite sure it's CNY celebration on 8th Feb but not sure about the timing...

Hi Kin

Didn't knew that we can view the booklet K. Now, I know. Thanks for sharing. If you had viewed the booklet k before, what's your feel of booklet k? Are the questions in there really to sieve out those better students. What are so special about the questions in booklet k?

Thanks iluvjr2 and kin... but what exactly is the purpose of Booklet K? :scratchhead:

Some sort of additional unofficial \"tests\" on top of their normal SAs/CA to identify stronger/weaker students?
To assess each student's ability so as to help them along the way?
For streaming purposes??.... :?
Hi, until this day, I also have the same doubt as you as to what is the purposes of booklet k. The school has not really explained to us why the booklet k or maybe they did and I am not aware. :?
Perhaps, those that had viewed the booklet k can enlighten us.

Booklet K is part of the CA/SA papers. You may notice that some of the questions within the test papers will make reference to booklet k. That is when the child will refer to booklet k to answer the question. Your child will not have a seperate session just solely on booklet k.

My friend's DD's school hours as usual, except they will use 2-3 hours to celebrate. This is cos its not eve so no shorter hours.
PCPS sometimes I find comm very lacking... even the Term 1 PN schedule ends on 31 Jan and no information from 1 Feb onwards... :slapshead:

I am equally mystified about booklet K. On top of that for P3, it was mentioned in the PN that P1 and P2 syllabus for Eng, Math and Chinese will be tested. Is the child really expected to go through the past 2 yrs’ work? This is indeed a big jump from modular exams !!

Hi bridesep,

Actually, The sch system is only modified for lower primary. How each sch bridge the children back to the ca2, sa1, sa2 exam system, i think every sch has its own plan. Although i find that the non exam style in P1 & P 2 is gd for the kids, eventually, they sit the same PSLE paper. So, the in between stages where the child goes fr modular to ( accumulative) exam style is something we have to prepare ourselves and children too.

Because my P5 dd is the last batch of old exam system, she went thro ca and sa style where the syllabus tested is accumulative. Even in P3 , you can be tested stuff fr P1 and 2, which I think make sense, because you need to be sure of yr foundation wk before moving on. My dd really undergo stress in that sense because the amt of knowledge will increase. Hence, consistency and not having back log in hmwk and doubts are v impt.

Just my humble opinion : )

Hi iluvjr2,

Booklet K in p2 & p3 seemed tougher for my dd but p4 was ok. Don’t worry too much if you are talking abt math and science. Actually, pcps 's standard in sc and math is pretty good. I find that they do teach a lot in higher order to prep the child. For math, every topic, the teacher will definitely teach hieuristics. As long as yr child can understand that, ( worksheets fr math) they shld be good. Ecen fir sc, i feel the child must pay attention and must really have gd grasp of lang, concepts. Not sure, must ask.
So far, qns in Booklet K are not killer qns. Sometimes, the main paper is even harder. Yes you take it at the same time together w the normal paper.

I don’t think one should worry abt it. Eg, my dd’s k last sc score was 12/20. Naturally, i asked to find out what was wrong, so that I can reinforce concepts at home.
