Just to add on…
I was about to sign up for the Chinese Immersion Programme from Term 3, 2012 but guess what? The price has increased from $720 to $900!
Not forgetting the computer aided education which has increased from $200+ to $300+ since the beginning of the year. It was announced during orientation last year.
And school bus at $320 per term…
If I were to add all these together, just imagine the fees I need to pay on 25 June 2012!!!

I have been to YCK kinderland last Dec when they were having renovations. They tried to hardsell me the 3-hourly programme when I was keen only in the childcare. Their childcare was full at the time I made the inquiry. I can’t help but felt that they are more like a profit center, trying to sell me packages which have the highest profit. By the way, the price quoted for the 3 hourly programme is about 2.5 times of what I am paying for my boy’s school.
Children adapts pretty fast, if mummies are not comfortable paying the premium price, why not make the change, rather than feeling sore about the whole thing. -
I agree. Might as well just change school rather than to bear with it. Who knows when is their next fee hike?? What if they increase school fees again next year??
And honestly, I don’t find their programme fantastic and they keep changing teachers. My girl’s chinese teacher was changed twice this year. Honestly, I am very disappointed with the school and the management. -

YCK Kinderland has a lovely environment but if the price hike is not acceptable / reasonable/ or for increase in quality of education then maybe to explore other options now.
Perhaps you can do some shortlist / reseach online and then book appointments to check out over weekend (when hub can help)?
Computer lessons and chinese enrichment seemed pretty common in some other brand kindergartens/childcare these days.
At age of 5, if you explain to your daughter properly, i believe she will somehow understand and will adapt eventually. Like you said - it is another 1.5years. If you dread the fee increment, you have to remember you have to bear another 1.5years! Or maybe, touchwood - they may have another round of increment in fees during the 1.5years.
Hope all work well for you in the end. Must be tough for you at this stage.

It is true that the school faces increases in their utilities as well. However, 25% increase compared to the country’s inflation rate of 5% is a large disparity.
This fee increase applies to the 3-hour program, not the full-day childcare. It isn’t childcare so we get no government subsidy. Working mothers cannot claim any rebate on the full amount we pay.
Perhaps the fee increase may apply to the fullday child-care soon. -
Unlike Ph.D. Mommy , my gal is in K2 this year and I think all K2 will be the most unfortune in this fee hikes. It will be another 6 months and they will be P1. There is no way to pull out now.
And like most parents, I had written to the school twice but no reply at all!
I hope parents continue to write in and hopefully the management will re-consider the parents point of view.. seriously who can accept 25% revision in the middle of the year! :rant:
I had also write in to MOE to quiry if there is any guidelines for private school fees revision and I hope I will get some reply. :?: -

However if you put yourself in my shoes, things are easier said than done. Kindergartens don't open on weekends and my hubby doesn't get weekends off at all. In fact he is hardly home. By the time my girl gets home, it will be 3pm and most kindergartens close at that time. I have yet to shortlist any schools too. In fact this school was chosen by my girl and to get her to choose another new school will not be easy as she has been there since Nursery level. She is barely 5. Her birthday just past on Christmas Day. Of course I also have ways to persuade her but I have to come to a decision myself first. I need to think carefully. My girl will have to get used to a new sibling and then get used to a new school, teachers and friends and probably a new routine. Will a 4 years old be able to cope with such sudden drastic change? If it were your child, would you bear to be so cruel? This is why I am in such a dilemma. Hope I come to a decision soon... -

For parents who can no longer afford the increased fees, it is difficult to find a new school in the middle of the year. Many preschools are already filled.
A new idea i’d like to share:
Large corporations may not understand how the real consumer feels. Unlike a small business owner, who meets the customers on a daily basis, big businesses are too detached from their customerss.
Oh…but I thought this was a school and focused on educating children.

I am caught in dilemma too… Registered with Kinderland once they opened for public registration, paid the deposit and what’s not of $642, now slapped with this fee increase before even DS gets to school… he is going in 2013…
Hb says maybe it’s time to look around for other pre-schools… sob sob… I thought my school search has ended smoothly…
Anyone able to recall how often do they increase their fees? And is everytime increase by this much? -
As I can recall, they increase their fees every 2 years (estimate). It was never this much before. The last increase was from $1166 to $1290.
