Hi everyone,
My DS has been transferred to ZDPS this year since we moved to this area.
Hoping to connect with parents of P4? Anyone parent from P4-I?
All new to me and yesterday was first day of school.
Cheers!

RE: All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools
Hi,
Can I have some advice please?
We are going to shift into Tiong Bahru area soon (by year end).
As such, will have to transfer my DS to a school around this area.
Tried to read up on few of the Primary school threads… of the few, these are shortlisted in order of preference:
1)Alexandra Primary;
2)Radin Mas;
3)Zhangde Primary.
Of the 3, Zhangde is the nearest followed by Alexandra.
Alexandra is new but it seems the parents on that thread are really happy with the teachers and all. DS is P3 with quite good results in all subjects but the principal from Alexandra being from a famous primary school before, can I please check if there are any stringent requirement to meet? DS is not a class leader or excellent in sports.
I also thought I saw a thread on “All about transfer of primary school” title but can’t seem to find it now… any help would be most appreciated?
TIA! -
RE: To Work Or Not To Work

Agreed totally.
The family eats out less, spends less on luxury goods, and is not thinking of going for a holiday any time soon. Mr Chua said they have managed to save about $1,000 a month this way.starlight1968sg:
Call me cynical, a family of 4 with wife earning 6k and husband earning 2k (if he gets a job) = 8k per mth still hv some issue?
http://www.straitstimes.com/business/st ... losing-job?
eat out, luxury good , holiday are luxury items can do without .so they din lose much and they still managed to save $1K
imagine people who never get to eat out often or luxury good or holiday ... think they are still quite ok IMHO
With double income, if one party loses a job, there is still one more set of income and ST article mentioned the wife fetches around $6K? That's total household income for some!
They just have to be a bit more realistic and adjust accordingly.
Not such bad shape IMO.
Sole breadwinner losing a job - that's bad. -

Actually strange that the guy in the ST article says 40plus go interview to sell himself not nice. Why should it be? I was recently doing a recruitment and have received many applications from people in their 40s. Nothing wrong what. Or have I missed something?
This guy has probably been in the same job same company for a long time. It is harder for such middle level manager to go job hunting and know how to market their experiences. Previously with comfortable job and stagnant in position - not easy to convince company to take him in compared with a younger worker with more drive and experience in different companies. That's why I still think wherever one is, must always value add to the company and to yourself else you will become obsolete remaining in the same company.
Having said that, I also think he should be more positive and show more willingness to explore new roles. Attitude is very important and recruiters want to look out for sincere candidates willing to work. -
RE: Unfair treatment in Math
That's the challenge of being in an \"elite\" school?
In any case, with all the above views, i do concur that parents have to play an active role in helping their child these days -- as parents, we want to help our child reach their highest potential but as a teacher (as Tamarind shared), you have to help the class (if not majority) to pass.
In an 'elite' school, there may also be pressure to filter out further to maintain their 'standard' and reputation?
Skyjuice:
DS just transferred to an \"elite\" school. He was from one of the top classes in his previous school but now placed in a low ability class. He got very bored doing just the work book. No challenging sums at all. He was shocked to learn only 2, in his current class of 41, passed SA1 Math and at borderline too. Many of the kids scored below 40. I've seen that paper and it really isn't easy!
I guess it's a bit shocking as DS had always been in top classes and never seen such results before. Perhaps it's the school's way to get the kids to buck up with a tough paper? Or like Sun2010 said, the school's way to filter out the higher ability students.
Like Picolo, I've always known better classes do more. But I guess now then I feel a bit sore bearing the brunt of it. We have stepped up on his home revision cos can't depend on his class to prepare him for the SA2 if DS wants to move to a better class next year.
Just needed an outlet to let it out! Thanks folks! :stupid:[/quote] -
RE: Seriously Addictive Maths - Discussion
I was attracted to sign up with CM or PSLE Math but CM is full and PSLE Math – too far logistically for me (Parkway).
PSLE Math
Though i did not sign up with them – here are some obeservations to share:
a)Go to Parkway branch – Jason is good, very detailed and patient in explaining to me at great length even over the phone; he is very committed to explaining the programme;
b)AMK branch - let down by this branch – the line is almost pepertually ringing with no answer and the lady (in charge) said she would call back but never did;
-when i called again to enquire about class availablity, was again turned away with a hostile “I will call you back”… don’t seem interested in new students?!
-very different from Jason (Parkway branch).
S.A.M
-i have just signed DS up at the Thomson V branch;
-will share feedback in 1 or 2 months’ time. -
RE: Han Language Centre - Discussion
Hi,
My son has just started with Han language centre at AMK Hub and he seems to like it.
The teacher is very friendly and do take time to answer your queries and give feedback.
Previously, he had been with TS and Berries. TS (Bishan CC one) is also good but i withdrew him to join Berries which as a nightmare (for the branch i signed with).
TS no longer has space for him so i put him in Han.
The worksheets, while it looked simple, i thought was good - it encourages them to look up new words with a different side stroke (e.g. ren zi pang, tiao shou pang...), sentence construction.
Fees is $318 per term (12 lessons) with registration of $30.
My son's class size is small - only 1:6 due to the small classroom allocated but works fine.
Hope this helps some of you looking at Han -
RE: OnSponge Maths - Discussion
Hi,
Just to confirm - OnSponge is for P3 and above? -
RE: Berries - Discussion
Well, the class teacher (main) my DS attended at K1 was not.
I arrived early and checked through the ‘window panel’ - saw my DS seated across her and she tried to go through some words with him (he was the last one - and she wasn’t even concentrating on the words she was pointing to him! kept looking at the other kids & assistant teacher), got impatient, wave hand signal to assistant teacher to take over from her. Then she moved to the others and started to read a story to them.
After class, i asked her and she spoke to me in a loud & impatient tone - what’s the hurry & problem? Till i lodged a complain to the centre manager then her attitude changed slightly. Centre manager was nice and offered my DS to attend another class by another teacher instead. But by then, i had opted out and moved to Tien Hsia at Bishan (i don’t know about other branches). Much better. -
