Just received a mail from St Anthony to attend the Primary One Orientation programme on 19 Nov ay 0730 hrs. Was wondering why so early ?

Yes, it is 7.30 am because I attended it last year at the same time. Earlier better, can do things faster. Also may need to queue for uniforms and books.

Thanks for the info. Understand why they called us up so early now. 270 students with parents - It is a big number if need to queue up and certainly takes alot of time.

She told me she went to SAPS at 10am+, there are already 300+ applicants.. So she give up.

She went to Lianhua instead & got quene no. 38.... So I guess her chance is very high in Lianhua (within 1km)...

LPS' Phase 2C supp balloting for <1km.... lucky for your SIL.
do pass the note to her that if she is considering to buy the shoes printed with the school's logo, think again..cos the quality is quite poor. it is not compulsory to get shoes and socks with school's logo.

This I agree cos My DD's shoes wore out with a hole right in front before Term 1 was even up. She also mentioned that her classmates' LPS shoes were also in bad shape.

Definitely need to buy books on the orientation day? No online order and home delivery service?
Pls advise.

Will the kids know their classes on the orientation day? Will there be a second orientation nearer to school reopen date?
Considering to bring DS for holidays in late Dec ...

Hi! My DD is not at SAPS but I believe orientation procedure is about the same in pri schs.

1. Yes, classes will be made known on orientation day.
1a. Students usually get a worksheet or two to do. For my DD, it's just to check on her level of pre-requisite knowledge and understanding. I have heard that some schs may use the result to re-organise their classes. Not sure if this is true.

2. Orientation should be one day only since the teachers will also need a break. Organising an orientation is time-consuming and requires lots of manpower.

3. Since you are only going in Dec, and generally schs have their orientation days at the end of Nov, it shouldn't be a problem.

4. You don't only buy books, uniforms, etc. on orientation day. There will also be talks by principal, teachers, your child will get to meet his/her teacher and classmates, etc.

Think different schools do their orientation differently. For mine (not SAPS), we bought the books online and collected them directly from the supplier. School uniforms were also bought from another supplier at their shop outside too. Classes were known before orientation day. During orientation day, the kids go to their respective classes while the parents watch performances by various CCAs in the hall.

Closer to the orientation day, you will get a letter indicating your child's class together with the book list and timings whereby the bookshop and uniform provider will be available, normally on sats before the actual orientation day. Online ordering is also available,
Last year, I brought my kids down and bought the books and uniforms a few weeks earlier. But on orientation day, still need to queue for PE T-shirt and pants bec did not get to know the colour beforehand.
