DD’s teacher charges me $140 for 4 lessons, Grade 1. She comes to our house for the lessons and will replace any lessons missed.

Hi. Can I asked what is the charges for those piano teacher who come to our house to teach? My son is finishing his Yamaha Junior Course soon (4 years). I'm thinking of switching him to Individual Classical Piano where there is ABRSM exam and the progress should be faster. The fees seem to varies a lot - $140 to $180 for a grade 1 student. Is this normal?
My kids' piano teacher charges $260 per 4 lessons of 45mins each for Grade 6. Besides, she is entitled to 6 'days' of paid holiday per year. ie. no lesson but payable. -

Why not travel to the teacher's house since you already have to travel anyway? Cost-wise I'm sure the teachers will charge lesser as they save on travelling time?My dd's school charges $150 for 45 minutes individual lesson grade 1. Run on school calendar with term breaks so only 45 lessons a year. We need to pay for whole month even though sometimes only 3 lessons that month. Effectively work out to be exactly $40 each lesson 45 minutes
Seems more expensive compared to private piano teachers coming to your house? Furthermore, we have to go to the school premise
However, we haven't bought a piano, only have keyboard at home. Not sure about my dd's commitment yet. I suppose we need to buy a piano first before engaging private piano teacher... -
Just kp. Can see that most of the piano lessons quoted are 45 mins. How about theory? It is inclusive? If not, where do you take your theory lesson and how much? TIA

The 45min include theory. Most of the time she spend about 30min on practical and 15min on theory. -
My kids’ teacher charges $85 for 30 minutes lessons and $130 for 45 minutes lessons, 4x a month.
As the Grade 1 theory is rather manageable, she leaves it to me to coach the kids. But she will mark the homework given after lessons. So, 45 minutes solely for playing. -

I remember when I was learning piano (grade 1/2) my lessons were 1.5hr. First 15min is practice/check drills (fingering), 15min fun songs (non-exam), 40min exam pieces, 20min theory. My theory was always 1 grade ahead of practical. She gives me homework for theory (average 1 page per day till the next lesson). -
Just got a recommendation from a friend. The teacher charge $140 for 45 mins at my house for grade 1. Guess I need to monitor if the teacher can “motivate” my son plus ensure he learns well. Wish me luck!

My kid’s teacher charges $90 for 30 mins lesson, 4x a month for beginner, without theory. I am coaching her theory at home myself at the moment.

I guess it depends on how old were you when you did your grade 1/2. These days, kids are starting younger and younger so for very young kids, it is not advisable for the lessons to be too long.summer:
