Hi JJ_T,
I am a KS Shichida mom, I started sending my 4 month old daughter to Shichida classes last year.
On her 1st lesson the sensei started flashing cards at a fast pace.
If you want to follow Shichida Method style, you may want to look at

I do have problems looking for variety of flash cards. They seem to be same style... like apple, ball, cat..etc. My son just cannot keep still, and gets bored with the flash cards I bought.
I'll try it out.

hi,
I just started my 15 months gal on picture flashcards. I bought 'the learning series' from popular. However, after trying out picture flashcards for a week, she developed a strong preference for picture flashcards and refused to look at those word flashcards. She also refused to look at certain topics such as transport and will pick her fav series such as fruits and animals.
What can I do to make her look at word flashcards?
Thanks for your replies

I am a ‘sucker’ for flashcards…
I started flashing the cards when my DD was 1 year old. I emphasize more on WORDS flashcards, not PICTURES flashcards. I did the sightwords and those big bombastic vocubulary words myself. My 3.3 years old girl now already knows all the sightwords from Dolch list and amazingly, some of the vocubulary words. -
Hi everyone,
I really envied those whose kids are interested in flashcards..
I just started my 13 months boy on Glenn Doman flashcards. I bought the english and maths set. However, after trying out for 2 weeks, he would crawl or walk away.
I try to put him on his high chair hoping that he will not be so distracted.. but he look away sometimes and even daydream...
:?:
When i tried to show him the 2nd set, he would scream.... :stupid:
What should i do to show the flashcards in a way that he finds it interesting?
Does i need to give him a break of 1 week and start all over again? -
Must every baby / toddler / young child love flashcards? Why do parents need to insist kids must sit and look at flashcards? If your kid is not interested in flashcards, then don’t "flash" the cards and move on to other activities that may interest him. You can do counting with the kid, reading, singing song, etc. Find those peek-a-book books that the kid can be engaged in too.
Alternatively, have you tried cards with pictures on 1 side and words on the other side? I know Glenn Doman cards are all dots and words only, so it may be "boring" to your son??
There is no steps 1-10 for parenting. What appeals to one kid may not appeal to another. Just be creative and no need to be stressed by your kid not responding to flashcards. I know it can be a little heartache, esp. if you have spend a bomb on that, but well, kids are different in their taste.
As what someone used to say, if kids come with specific manuals and operating instructions, parenting would be a breeze and much less of a chore. -
Btw, for your info, I "flash" a lot of cards to DS, did all the "shichida" work with him, etc. With DD, no such "luxury" as very busy by then and only read to her at every opportunity. Turn out that DD is not "short-changed" in any way and she is a very fast learner and an avid reader with much more initiatives and more resourceful than her brother.
Relax, not flashing cards is not going to deprive your kid of anything. As long as you spend "creative" and "quality" time with your kid, that is what matters. -
Instead of ‘flashing’, pin up the cards at appropriate places.
My boy prefers to handle the cards (play, bite, fold). But at least he’s looking at the cards so we’ll read whatever he picks up and is playing with.
Now, he plays with the cards by spreading them on the floor, then hop on them as he reads them. Whatever it is, as long as he reads, I don’t really care.
