[Punggol] Primary Schools
-
LSKj:
ISO audit on all schools? I guessed most schools would generally take care the good ones & the poor ones. The good ones can score well improve the school ranking image. The poor one better they tighten in order not to drag down the overall standard.Hmm..sch in ponggol...wondering which sch..may be affecting my decision.. hope is not MTS..gosh..
I think that school whose objective is to only take care of good n bright students shd not be considered to send yr children to..this is poor and irresponsible management. Maybe ISO shd be conducted to all schools as well whahaha.. to ensure fairness and consistency..
Those in the middle are safe zone. Had a friend's kid in KWS where said the school quite don't bother his work when he had asked the teacher. -

Finally Horizon Primary already break the 0 record where registered 36 in Phase 2C Day 1. Seem like Edgefiled Primary very likely would surface out balloting scenario where instead of heaidng to MTS, they target Edgefield.Luanee:
Ha.ha I have \"Skycam\" leh, hee.hee.
Ok updates to all. Ballotig for those only at 1Km only. More than 1Km better try other primary schools.
That means 50 points in my pocket liao.
Yes Mee Toh indeed is a super hot hot school in Punggol area.
Meetoh is certainly super hot based on the popularity. But my advice for those whose kids are below average in studies, MeeToh is not the right school to go.
I have discovered when comparing the homework sheets, tests and exam papers from various schools in this region(sengkang and Punggol) that MeeToh's ones are the toughest, even right from Pri One. -
My niece now Pr 3 in MTS…heard her parents say papers difficult esp the maths and chinese and she score better in ATS’s maths paper than her own school…

Actually, I cannot understand why MeeToh being in a neighbourhood environment where many a kid would have come from families with low-educational background, set such high standard for their students.
It is a vicious cycle - Kid brings homework home. Parents cannot teach. Teacher preprimands the kid for been lazy. So parents get tutor for their kid n burn a big hole in their pocket esp. when they are also likely to be low wage earners as well.
Ok, send for school remedial classes. But then in remedial class, usually more homework to bring home to do. To be honest, sometimes I wonder what the teacher teaches in the remedial cos I usually find that the kids come back to my student care centre with remedial homework that they still do not know how to do.
I have two kids from MTP. There are quite weak in their studies. And yet the homework that they have to do is more difficult than those from Nan Chiau(IMHO) . We try our best to give them more attention. I can only hope they do not lose heart in their studies in the long term.
My advice to parents. If you do not have the ability or resources to help your kids to cope with studies, please do not enrol them in such school as Nan Chiau or Meetoh. You will only make them suffer and hate studies. Don't mean to offend some parents here. It hurts me and my teachers to see these kids hate studies.

David59, I have to agree with you. Some schools set standards very high & parents are struggling to ensure their kids do well.
I have alot of students who come to me for tuition from Mee Toh. Their standard isn’t very bad but their results are terrible. Makes the parents very upset & the kids very demoralised.
High standards has pros & cons. If the school is putting in more resources to help weak students do better, then high standards will be very good. -
One thing i do not understand is that since MTS set high std test and exam papers, then how come i do not see top scorers coming frm it? Esp the top scorer’s result was only 265 in yr2008…and in the school academic ranking, it is not listed anywhere? Correct me if i am wrong…and i really hope i’m wrong as i intend to put my children in MTS as we need not do PV. I also heard that the school only focus only top classes than the weakers…Can someone advise? Really in a dilemma now…

When a child don't pay attention in class, so don't understand and can't do his work. :?
When parents can't teach the child, the parents panic, thus send the child for tuition. But do the child pay attention during tuition lessons too?
Then parents blame school, blame teachers for setting high standard questions.
If neighbourhood school cannot set higher standard questions for exams, then we can presume all these kids will fail their PSLE. :?:
And MTS is a government-aided school, like all the other clan-related schools, MTS will have a higher standard and try to help the kids to do well for their PSLE. Ultimately, the kids are the ones sitting the exams, stress or no stress!!

I do agree that ultimately the child has to sit for the exam, stress or no stress. When a child don't pay attention in class, so don't understand and can't do his work. :?

I do not see anything wrong with a school setting very high standard. This is why I want to discourage parents who do not have the means and abilities to help their kids in their academic studies from enrolling in such schools.
However, there is also such a thing as streaming the kids into different classes, from the best class to the slowest learner class so that the teachers can peg varying degree of teaching according to their students' capability. Otherwise, it is like asking a kid to keep trying to jump over five feet when the kid can only manage 4 feet. Rather the kid should be encouraged to make incremental improvemnet gradually.
So also a truly great school is one that educates each and every of their students to make incremental improvement toward excellence. -
During tuition (depending on large group or small group or individual), most kids will pay more attention than at school as the teacher will give more attention to the kids. That's why I limit my group tuition classes to 4-5 per class. More individual attention and it won't be another 'classroom'.
Kids will be kids. No matter how much parents nag at home, there'll definitely be some that will 'daydream' or 'zone out' during school lessons. These students will need consistent monitoring.
Some parents do not know how to teach their children. Honestly speaking, alot of parents are also too busy with work to have proper time dedicated to checking their children's work.
High standards are good if the appropriate support is given in school. The school can't expect to set high standards & leave students/parents to fend for themselves
As mentioned earlier, enrol your child in the school based on his/her 'stress appetite'. If you know your child can't take stress, enrolling him/her in a less stressful environment might be better.
By the way, I'm a teacher & private tutor. I'm not siding the school/teachers or parents/students. Just sharing what I observe and feel

Hi,
Seeing alot of comments on Mee Toh. Just wondering anyone has any feedback on Edgefield especially those with kids already studying there.
Thanks in advance for your comments!
