      Hi,

Can anyone help with the following questions that I have:

      1) Can students wear PE attire to school on days without PE lessons?
      2) Is it necessary to wear the school socks? Can wear normal white socks?
      3) Any advice on which CCAs to join?

      Thanks.

Full uniform on days without PE. After PE lesson, must change to full Uniform.
Some students hv been wearing white socks this year, so far no problem.
Choosing of CCAs based on one's interest.

Pay attention to the school rules and regulations and the child will hv no disciplinary issue.

    • RE: Pathlight School or other mainstream school?

I also like to share to the super mums here:) my ds survived 6 years of education in mainstream school. He was diagnosed with Selective Mutism in Pr 1 and ASD last Nov.

Throughout the 6 years, there’s adjustments and stress/anxieties to iron out. But we were lucky to have good and supportive teachers to accommodate and help him. As parents, we have to step in as and when to liaise with teachers on his behalf.
Even now he’s in Sec 1 and still in mainstream school, I still have to liaise with his teachers, giving him the support that he’s lacking.
Looking at my ds, I realised that although there are many difficulties and situtations for him to learn and adjusts, he’s able to cope and survived in his own way. That’s pretty amazing!

    • RE: Secondary School with ASD support

Hi, my ds who is autistic is in a mainstream secondary sch. He’s academically able but lack in social skills. The school is not one of MOE’s list of secondary school. Due to his above-average IQ, I was advised to enrol him in a normal school to challenge his learning skills. I liaise with the school to support him in other ways like his anxiety and not communicating outside home environment.

Visit the schools when they have open-house and get a feel of the school environment, and find out if the schools can support ASD kids.

    • RE: All About Selective Mutism

My ds was referred to the school counsellor by p1 teacher after observing him been very quiet. Then school counsellor refer him to CGC IMH.

I’ve heard of kids in secondary schools still hv SM. I think it really depends on the individual.

When my ds was diagnosed with SM in p1, I print out leaflet for his teachers to hv a better understanding on SM. Then I ‘trouble’ his Ft to give him toilet break as and when depending on teacher’s timetable. My ds is in p6 this year. In p 4, he started to go to the toilet before recess is over. Since p5, he was able to ask for permission when very urgent. It’s important to inform and communicate with the teachers frequently to assured the child and build his confidence.

    • RE: Secondary School Selection 2013

Zhonghua sec is a good school and has smaller intake plus strict discipline.

The students very seldom loiter ard in their school uniforms.
If you see many of them at Serangoon Nex, it’s because the school is nearby.

Hi anyone to share about choosing CCA at Zhonghua after Open House on Saturday? Some need to go for selection test and we are still evaluating which is best for our DS.

By the way, our DS is in 1E5 and heard it is the only class where all the students are taking Higher Chinese. The other class is a mixture of Normal and Higher Chinese.

From class allocation, it seems girls are better at Chinese Language as the classes consist of 34 girls and only 9 boys! : :scared:
Go for selection based on your DS's interest, if not selected, then chances to join uniform gp is quite high! UG usually needs more ppl.
