pinky:

between TJC and ACJC, which one will you choose for science course?

For this, I will choose based on distance.

if distance is not a issue, which choice then?
also, can anyone who have gone through the music elective program gives some advice and insight as to what are the requirements, syllabus and
how the exam is conducted etc ?
thank you.

From what I read and hear people talk about it ...

I will choose TJC as the students usually come from a wide spread of Sec schools. For ACJC, most students come from its Affiliated Sec Schools.

I understand some JCs allow students to do hybrid combination, like H2 Maths, H2 Chem, H2 Econs, H2 Geog.

I am wondering whether any student will do H2 Econs, H2 Geog, H2 Chem and H1 Maths instead ?

Does it makes sense for a student to do Maths in H1 but do a Science subject in H2?

Can the student still go into U and do BSc in Chemistry (for example) ?

Thanks.
Maths is extremely important for uni applications later. So best to do H2 Maths. If you can't cope, you can move to H1 Maths.
hi!! i just got back my o lvl results!!! i got 13 raw and 2 bonus points!! Cathlic JC COP is 10 for science stream and im not even in any of the affilated skus. should i put Cjc as my 1st choice then appeal??

No harm in trying, but note that demand is quite high, and there are so many affilated schools for CJ, so demand is likely very high.

In other news, this newbie just got back his results:
A1 English
A1 e maths + a maths
A1 elective history + SS
A1 Geography
Dissappointing performance for my sciences though. A2 for all 3 of them.
Looking for options, though ACJC, VJ and NJ are the leaders right now. I could try for MLEP for HCI, but my Chinese is mediocre, at B3. SJI boy; strongly considering IB, but the program puts me off. Any advice? Or can I attempt to appeal for HCI arts stream? Otherwise, I am more inclined to enter the Science stream.

i1k,
You sji boy? How is the school performance?
Why put off by their IB programme? Care to share? Thanks.
Yes.
In absolute terms, very good, maintaining Band 1 status. However, there is a
slight deterioriation from last year's results, which were the best ever in our school. That may be attributed to the fact that some papers this year required more analytical, out-of-the-box thinking than last year's, which were simpler, in my opinion. 10.4 mean l1b5, 2.14 MSG, 67 percent distinction rate overall. In individual subjects, perhaps due to differences in difficulty and marking, distinction rate is lower across the board. Especially for English. Last year, we had a distinction rate of 76%, triple the national average (some say the best in SG) - it dropped to 57%. however, do note that national average dropped too, so its probably because it was a hard paper. I found it moderately challenging, but not really a source of vexation. A Maths - distinction rate in the 70s as opposed to the 80s.

I am put off by the IB program due to several concerns on my part, rather than any inadequacies on my school's part. The nature of IB demands consistency in your academics and lots of creative thinking. I am pretty inconsistent, and I normally peak at the end of the year, after consolidating and rectifying my shortcomings. I am of the opinion that this may prevent me from really excelling there. That said, I can see its merits. I have 2 classmates with a confirmed offer already and they have been effusive with eir praise of the curriculum, with the caveat that you, as an individual, prefer the modular, long-term assessment approach of IB. That said, the school has really pulled out all the stops to ensure the success of IB. SJI boys that excel can get scholarships that give free uniforms, textbooks and waiver of school fees. The school has also enriched their staff with several experienced IB teachers. Personally, one of my subject teachers was a coordinator behind setting up the program, and it was easy for me to see how much the school was passionate for the system to be implemented. This included getting a high-level person that was in the administration for one of Australia's top girl's schools to be the IB headmaster. It just shows how concerned e school is for the IB stream to succeed.

Can anyone from Yew Tee studying in VJ confirm the duration of travel to and from school? Considering either ACJC, VJC or NJC. Also, can anyone tell me about the Humanities Program? Taking the Program at AC or NJ figures as a dark horse in my choices. As you can see from my results, my domain is the humanities so I am interested, though compulsory Lit is turn-off.

Nope, that's not true anymore for ACJC. Since the affiliated schools like MGS and ACS are producing students of better calibre, most of the students are eligible and will apply for better JCs (speaking from personal experience) so there are students from Crescent (a lot), Cedar, St. Nics, St. Marg's, CHIJ, SJI, Bukit Panjang, NanHua, SCGS(around 20?), MGS (only 30 odd students for the 2013 graduating batch), and more students from \"non-elitist\" are entering. No need to feel \"inferior\" if you apply into AC since there's a diverse range of students now compared to in the past. All the best! 🙂

And for other's who wonder about the subject combination, certain JCs have fixed combinations for students to choose but in AC, students can tailor their own hybrid combi, speaking from experience.

In MGS there were more than 80 students with 7A1s and better from what I heard.

My results:

English - A1
EM - A1
AM - A1
Combined humans. *geog/ss - A1
Physics - A1
Chemistry - A2
Accounting - A2
Chinese - B3.

Nett is 5 points, since my CCA grade is A1. I live in the west ( Bukit Panjang ) and the only viable JCs are NJC, ACS and ACJC. I would like any advice and details about these JCs, A levels and the IB . Also, I plan to take literature but I am unsure about the subject. I read a lot, but not those 'literature-ish' texts, and I am worried that in JC, students with more exposure would have an unfair advantage over me. Also, is the A levels or IB better in terms of getting into uni? I don't know much about them because I am from a neighborhood school (my Chinese at PSLE killed me :slapshead: ). Also, is chemistry at A levels/IB much harder than at 'O's ? For my prelims, my chemistry was like barely B4, because it was mainly memorizing. I did better in my 'O's because there was less memory work tested last year and I did well in the MCQ section . Is there more application or memorizing required in tertiary level?

Thank you!

Does anybody knows how RI accept those cases with partial 3?? Do they look at the number of A1s and HMT?

E.g. student A has 6A1s, 2A2s and 1C5(HMT) compared with student B who has 5A1s, 3A2s and 1B3(HMT). Both raw score 7 pts. Who will have a higher chance of getting in?
