      CLOVIS96:
      My results:

      English - A1
      EM - A1
      AM - A1
      Combined humans. *geog/ss - A1
      Physics - A1
      Chemistry - A2
      Accounting - A2
      Chinese - B3.

Nett is 5 points, since my CCA grade is A1. I live in the west ( Bukit Panjang ) and the only viable JCs are NJC, ACS and ACJC. I would like any advice and details about these JCs, A levels and the IB . Also, I plan to take literature but I am unsure about the subject. I read a lot, but not those 'literature-ish' texts, and I am worried that in JC, students with more exposure would have an unfair advantage over me. Also, is the A levels or IB better in terms of getting into uni? I don't know much about them because I am from a neighborhood school (my Chinese at PSLE killed me :slapshead: ). Also, is chemistry at A levels/IB much harder than at 'O's ? For my prelims, my chemistry was like barely B4, because it was mainly memorizing. I did better in my 'O's because there was less memory work tested last year and I did well in the MCQ section . Is there more application or memorizing required in tertiary level?

      Thank you!
Literature is a lot about memorising and analysis, nj students don't really have an advantage cuz we do not really focus on literature in the jh years. Chemistry i believe is harder than Os, and there are also more things to remember

Hi all, I’m a newbie here haha and came to ask for the advice from you guys!

I recently received my ‘O’ level results, and am stuck in a dilemma. My raw L1R5 socre is 7, nett score is 3. The subjects which I take up are as follow:

        English A1
        Combined humans(ss+hist) A2
        Pure geog A2
        Emaths A1
        Amaths A1
        Combined science(phys+chem) A1
        Hmtl C6
(raw is 7 because my grade for Chinese, taken in sec3, is A1)

I know I have the choice to enter the top few JCs. However, here is when the problem comes in: Firstly, I live far away from most of them. Secondly, I fear that I may not be able to cope if I were to enter a JC with a low cut off(I’m intending to enter science stream, but am still contemplating whether to opt for hybrid.)
I had thoughts of entering NJC/VJC, but considering that I live in Yishun, I would around 1h-1.5h to reach NJC/VJC. Hence, after considering distance, AJC/NYJC came up on my options. NJC is also still lingering in my ‘to choose or not to choose’ list since I kinda like the school after visiting the school for their open house. But if I were to really factor in distance, AJC and NYJC are my only two options.

Also, I’ve chosen to enter the science stream as I figured that I definitely can’t balance three arts subjects, and someone told me that entering the science stream is safer than entering hybrid if I haven’t decided on where I’m thinking of heading. If I were to enter the science stream in AJC/NYJC, I’ve decided to take up PCME, perhaps H2 for all(I was wondering if it’s okay if I take H2 for CME and H1 for Physics?). Also, if I had the liberty to enter the hybrid stream, I would choose to take up Maths H2, Chem H2, Econs H2, Geog H1.

Okay so!! My question is: With the subjects that I’m thinking of taking, which JC should I put for first choice? AJC(more of study less of fun) or NYJC(more fun and require discipline in myself to study well)? Or should I just place NJC as my first choice(seniors have advised me that it’s better to go to a school near me tho)?

        To sum up:
AJC – Near, Makes me study hard, but facilities old
NYJC – Near, facilities new, but I fear that I’d be too distracted
NJC – Dk if I should even consider because too far, but facilities and studies there=good.

Thanks in advance T_T Really stuck in a dilemma!!!

For IB, you will have to take literature, whether you are unsure of the subject or not. I never took literature in secondary school, but I managed to score quite well for it in year 5. IB chemistry is much easier than A level chemistry. For physics and chemistry, there's quite a fair bit of memory work as well as application involved. So purely relying on one or the other is not going to work.

Whether A level or IB is better for uni.. Well look at the IB vs A level thread or many other threads around here.

Anyone knows if there were any precious cases where students entered VJC Science with raw score of 7, and -2 bonus, is score of 5 ? The cut-off point stated in the booklet is 4 for Science and 5 for Arts.

              How did schools do?
Anyone know how many students scored 8 A1s, 9 A1s or 10 A1s in the top schools?

Nope... So I probably don't have a chance either -.-

How does Hwa chong and raffles choose their 3 pointers? Is it all random or do they see your english/number of A1s??

I feel it’s so sad that one with 8 raw, but with bonus of 4 (CCA+Affiliation) can enter VJ, but not one with a lower score of 7 raw, but only with bonus of 2.

you may try to appeal right now if you do wish to get into VJ. some top JCs may reserve a few places for those who don't have 2 bonus points for hmt.

                        Hi, 😄

I received a raw score of 9 points for O level,
after - 4 bonus points, it will be a nett score of 5.

                        Considering ACJC and NYJC,
Anyone willing to share the pros and cons of both JCs? 😉

I'm also worry about the subjects combination in JC.

If I take science stream, i would take H2 math and H2 biology.
However, H2 Bio comes along with H2 Chemistry,
which I got a B3 for Chemistry and I did not really like the subject. 🆒

If I take art stream, I would likely to take H2 geography and H2 Econs(which I heard it is very difficult, it that true?).
Again, however, I left with English/Chinese Lit.
I'm not interested in Chi Lit and English is my curse since young. :lightrod:

Thinking of taking Art as a subject in ACJC, but I heard it is kind of 'English pai\", I'm not really fluent in English, afraid that I can't mix in with the students there.

😓 too many questions, my apology,
                        :thankyou:
