Tao Nan School GEP
-
Hi parents and GEPpers at Taonan, feel free to connect!
-
The reason why I started this thread is my DS just transferred to TNS for GEP program. As I am always out of town for work, I would like to connect with parents who can share some activities and programs TNS will do for TNS GEPs so I can help my DS remotely (where necessary). So any information you can share are welcome.

Congrats. DD is in P6 now and I will say Tao Nan is a good school to be in, especially if you value good conduct and Chinese culture. Perhaps one of the earliest thing I would strongly suggest is to teach the kids ‘project’ management skills. They need to learn how to manage their time well while keeping in mind the deliverables (both quantity and quality).

Hi fan, thks and congrats to your DD who has successfully cleared through 2 years of the 3 year program. I think you are right, reading so many about time management, filing management and also project management really says it all, kids have to be independent to be able to enjoy the whole GEP journey without much stress… Else, kids suffer and parents too. Haaa

Tao Nan's quite strong in science (my opinion judging from the number of kids doing well in SPSO and other similar Science competitions). Doing well for exams will be 'taught' in class (such as using keywords and process in answering etc). I encouraged my girl to read widely (Horrible Science series, Library non-fiction books and videos, Science websites etc). If they gain the interest, they'll discover science for themselves -

Singapore Primary Science Olympiad. It's for Primary 5s organized by NUS High. Some Nannites took part in the Raffles Science Olympiad as well. Most important is that my kid enjoyed the science lessons (which is what we all wish for, right?)
Thanks timtamfan. may i know what is SPSO? -
I was totally surprised and horrified to learn that our kids failed the science practise papers before their common test!!
As GEP expectation, a minimum 70% is expected to continue the program, so is this only TaoNan own papers and trying to ‘alert’ child and parent or ?
