With less than 1 month to PSLE, it is time to consolidate learning and to practise prelim papers. From the mistakes made, go ask someone explain answer if the child cannot analyse on his own. Don't pressure the poor child. School has extra classes and the poor child is rushing to finish school homework.

Must let the child know that you love him no matter what his result will be.
      Yes I totally agree
Dd practised past 5yrs papers from 8-9sch
So tat works out to 8or9 x 5 x 3subjects, when she was preparing last yr
      Moz importantly. Practice practice practice
Exposure to various types of questions r def helpful

May i ask how early did you start yr dd to work on those papers cos they seem alot in addition to the homework and drilling provided by the school.

is all this panicking because of poorer-than-expected showing at the prelims?

with less than 30 days to go, I don’t think cramming is the way to go, maybe just focus on weak areas. By now, they should more or less have the necessary info/content in their heads, just need to hone up techniques and skills. and CONFIDENCE.

We always count school homework towards revision as that is what it's supposed to be, at least at this late stage. Also, we don't believe in over-drilling as kids get too tired and stop thinking. What is 'enough' varies from child to child - one of my girls has low stamina and we have to let her stop when she is tired even if she hasn't always mastered as much as we would like; the other one is usually on top of her work so we let her stop when she shows she has a good grasp of what she needs to know. Either way, my kids don't seem to study for very long hours. But we believe that sufficient rest is necessary, especially in the last couple of days before the exams. We don't allow last-minute cramming.

I may be going against the flow here, but I would recommend letting your kids take a short break to relax and recharge their batteries. You’ll be surprised at how just a couple of days of freedom from revision, endless worksheets and nagging will boost their energy levels.

Yes. Take care of their health too. They need to perform at their optimal on the actual days! What needs to be done is already done by now.

I am not advocating that we should all start cramming. I only recommended a guide book. You know what’s best for your kids.

DS actually used the MC Science Guide. We found out about EPH Science Guide during June holiday but decided to only use it as reference because there is really no time to go through the book. Maybe the current P5 can start reading it.

I totally agree to this. Last-min cramming doesn't work for my dd. Conversely, it works against her. More \"stuff\" came out then went in. And she starts to get really mixed-up in her concepts. Making me and herself more anxious. So, for dd, preparation starts earlier and step-down engine few days before any major exam. For the week before PSLE, she chill, read story books, listen to music, watch movies and korean drama (she says it helps for compo 😉 ). Works for her and for us too. Just sharing what works for dd. Every child is different though.
