How does Sec 2 streaming work?

Dear parents,
My DS is in Sec2 this year. I was told that the students are streamed based on their choices and then by merit.
By merit means overall percentage or L1B5? or school ranking??? -

Different schools have different practice. You should check with your DS's school. Beside looking at the overall results, individual subject has its own prerequisite.Dear parents,

By merit means overall percentage or L1B5? or school ranking???
Example to do 2 Pure Sciences , some schools expect the students to get at least 70% in Sec 2 Science. However, some schools allow students with 65% and above to do 2 Pure Sciences. -
I think they would look at your raw score. My son’s report card has this indicator which is upon 800 or 900 and the students are ranked according to how many raw marks they score over the different subjects. Think there’s also a percentile. So in order to imporve your ranking you need to work on all your subjects and not just one

Same for Amath. My DS school require them to get A1 in their sec 2 maths before they are offered a chance to take Amath. However, my friend’s son was asked to score 65 to get Amath. I think this is very risky for those not so strong in math kids.

Ya I head the maths play an important role that's why my son is at quite a disadvantage also cuz his math not very strong. And math takes up 2 subjects of A and E math. Sending him for math tuition already but not much results. If ur have good math group let me know

Say in the case of 2 students with different strengths from the same school.
Student A : A1-90 marks for Science and Maths and C6 for Humanities, overall 70%
Student B : A1 for all Humanities and C6 for Science and Maths, overall 71%.
Class 1 is pure science.
Class 2 is combined science with POA, etc.
Assuming both put Class 1 as first choice and there is only 1 seat left, who will get the seat knowing that Student A will do much better in Class A and Student B will do very well for Class 2?
In my opinion, streaming should be subject based. If Student A gets Class B, he may totally lost interest and vice versa. -

I think it depends on the school. Beside looking at the results, the school also looks at the teachers feedback.Say in the case of 2 students with different strengths from the same school.

From my experience with my nieces/ nephews schools,
Student A can do 2 or 3 Pure Science subjects but only do one humanities subject.
Student B will do combined science and maybe 2 humanities subjects.
My niece was like student B. She scored badly for Maths. Hence she was given Pure Chem and Pure Bio, Combined Human (SS + Hist), Pure Lit, POA. She was not given A Maths and Pure Phy.
