llbros545 : Do you think MEP students can cope with CCA and Math Olympiad or Science Olympiad involvement?
Also, do sec 1s have CA1 in Feb? -
They do not call it CA1, SA1, CA2, SA2 anymore.
It is call MR, mastery review (or something). I think is MR1, MR2, MR3, MR4 something, they also have class MR something like class test. All adds up.
Some subjects they do all within 1st half of the year and the rest of the subjects the 2nd half of the year.
Quite different from other school and also other IP school.
Be prepared to get a little confused, although I follow DS work closely from P3 to P6, but for Sec 1 I am still confused.
Don't worry, they are likely do not do well in earlier class tests, \"CA1\", \"SA1\", hopefully will pick up after that.
Some boys from other school, those with high T-Score can even fail their papers or get very low marks, so if your DS say he is lucky to pass and many in his class fail, it probably is true. How I know? Go school kaypo and ask other parents and compare lah!!!
But on the other spectrum, there is also 1 kid who score 100 for the first 3 MR and 99 the final MR for Maths, really respect. Maths is the only subject where perfect score is possible. They classified each subject into 4 bands (Band A, B, C, D with Band A the best), even like A1 (80+) in Maths can land you into Band C. A2 in Science is in Band B.
So be prepared, stay calm, welcome to CHS.

Some other schools are similar too, I'd think. My elder boy does some subjects in some terms only. Woe to the terms when he has \"Art\" as a subject bc his GPA would go down. LOL. Somehow he does badly in art. They do not call it CA1, SA1, CA2, SA2 anymore.

CandyHeart: Although I myself am not in MEP, I am pretty sure one can cope with both MEP and Olympiad involvement, along with the mandatory CCAs. MEP replaces subjects that do not carry weight in the assessment such as DNT and Home Econs. Whilst MEP students will have their fair share of assignments, they will be spared the burden of completing DNT and Home Econs projects. So thereβs quite a balance there. Furthermore, CCA is something every students has to cope with. For MEP students, they will most likely join aesthetics CCAs which are indeed very time-consuming and have many practice sessions, especially during SYF periods. For such, itβs up to the individual, really, to manage his time wisely and in the most appropriate fashion, so as to juggle between his various commitments. If you take part in Olympiads, you will have Olympiad preparatory classes. For SMO, it is during Maths period. For Science ones, it is after classes.

My DS v likely to score low marks or fail for the first few tests, especially for literature and HCL.
llbros545: How do the students generally cope with HCL? Teachers give a lot of hw or lots of guidance? You have been very kind to share info. Thanks! -
Hmm I found the workload for HCL very manageable so I do not think that the teachers give lots of homework. In sec 1, I feel that there is much more focus on EL/Lit than HCL itself since passing EL is a criteria for promotion to sec 2. But still, there will be sufficient guidance provided since those who do not perform up to minimal standards in HCL will be required to drop it.

llbros545:
Yes, students will be involved in overseas immersion trips. For most students, it will be in sec 3, in which all students will be encouraged to sign up for an overseas immersion programme. There's quite a spectrum of choices available, from Cambodia to UK and China as well. Students in aesthetic CCAs and sports CCAs (sec 1s and sec 2s included) also get to travel frequently to partake in overseas performances or training sessions with peers abroad, all of which promises a bountiful learning experience. Student leaders from all levels get to travel on service trips too. Lastly, students in the school-based SAP scholarship programme (not the MOE one) also get to travel to China after the EOYs.
Hi llbros545: u hv been v kind & helpful to answer the many qns posted here, tk u:-). May i knw what are 'sch-based SAP scholarship progrm' & 'EOYs'?

Just for everyone's reference. For uniforms, other than Bibi & Baba, another that supplies CHS uniforms is Shanghai Uniforms. It's office/warehouse is just behind CHS at Jalan Pemimpin.

Too bad I can't find another supplier for the CHS PE attire. My sec 1 boy needs 2 sizes smaller from Bibi & Baba's smallest size S. *sigh*. Even my elder son's school PE attire has size XS. How come CHS doesn't have. *urgh*.
