      Yes, the school will definitely allow a student to join 2 CCAs (subject to availability of time slots) and this can indeed provide a healthy boost to the CCA LEAPS points. Robotics Club is considered a secondary CCA and not a core CCA (compulsory), hence, it has to be undertaken alongside a core CCA from the branches of aesthetics, sports or uniformed groups.

      @mummy so kiasu,

      In lower secondary, my parents gave me $6 a day. Definitely enough to spend for two meals (recess break and lunch in school before CCAs). This was increased to $10 in Sec 4 since me and my friends eat at J8 more often 😄

      The food prices in the school canteen are generally reasonable. $1.50 for noodles and $2 for mixed sounds alright to me, at least. On this note, the western/international stall has quite a reputation for more expensive 'deluxe' food (chicken chop, beef, etc.). It sounds justified but in my friends' words, a rip-off. Worth checking out though.

      I reckon it takes me about 10 minutes to walk from school to Bishan MRT. Another option would be to take a bus from the bus stop opposite the school.

      @Dreamgear Nope, no school bus services. Bishan MRT is one bus stop away though.

    • RE: Victoria vs SJI for Secondary

      jonesy:
      Thought of revisiting this topic for the sec school posting exercise, especially as we'll be moving to Bedok/Upper East Coast area next year so SJI will be farther from our current place.

      My son's PSLE score is 255, which should easily qualify him at SJI (coming from an affiliated school). With SJI now having IP, he prefers this. For Victoria, last year's COP for Victoria was 252 (don't know about IP).

      What are the chances of this selection: 1) SJI-IP; 2) VS-IP; 3) SJI; 4) VS? Or should SJI be 2nd choice? He wants to go to SJI but for us VS would be much more convenient for him..
      The IB diploma in SJI vs the Cambridge A-Level examinations in VJC, which one is your son more inclined towards? This should be another major aspect to consider.

      Yea I’m quite sure retest scores count towards the actual score… but the final score can only reach a maximum of 50% (of the total marks)…

      Ichigokun: Perhaps you didn’t do well enough in the retest such that your final score would be affected… I’m not sure how they calculate though… lols… but yea jyss!

      Last year’s colour was cool blue! Oh and Maths is usually one of the subjects students score better in, many distinctions! In S1, Science is still ok, relatively high distinction percentage. Come S2, standards are raised to sieve out the Triple Science students from the non-Trip Science students, so many people get Bs.

      For Maths assessment books, I actually recommend the Ace-Learn web portal… lols… sorry, don’t know much about S1 assessment books.

      Yup and probably the only way to obtain 11A1s is to take a 3rd Language 🙂
