Hey Everyone 🙂 I haven't been posting on KSP for quite some time now due to the hectic schedule. EOYs have passed so I'm able to free up some time to visit KSP.

I was just wondering on which courses to take for Sec 2 Streaming, can anyone give me advice? 😞 http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=62859

        sparks:
can i get some feedback on the teachers in secondary school? are they nurturing type or result-oriented? my ds doesn't like the teachers in chs pri as they are mostly result-oriented. his fav teachers are those fr p1 n p2.

Depends on which teacher you are talking about. Some are really nice and the nurturing type while some are very strict and result-oriented.

It all comes down to luck (sorta). I have a mix of both kinds of teachers teaching me different subjects.

My ds in the ip portion... All very young and not at all result-oriented. In fact the academic environment is quite laid back.... Different story when it comes to cca... Very on-the-ball and result-focused....

I would agree the newer teachers are more of the nurturing type. But they can teach quite well as well, 一點都不輸給 the other senior teachers - and they know when is the time to be nice and when is the time to be strict

I can't really say its a laid back academic environment though. While its true that many people still play football during exam period - you should see how some of them go to libraries in groups after school, those who wake up in the middle of the night at 4 AM just to study for the paper coming up 4 hours later, and those who have these A4 sized notebooks with every inch of space used to write something

I don't do any of the above mentioned but its still very tiring. Almost every subject has a project for you and you have to complete it by the deadline or face screwing up that particular subject. And if your DS fail one subject, likely chance of the subject teacher ringing you up is 75%

Just imagine without scholarship, the fees are around $300 x 12mths x 6 years for independent ip schools compared to gov or gov aided schools n also lead to same alevel.... Is it worth the investment or roi? For me I prefer the obvious ...

Scholarship is on a yearly renewal basis, subject to good results. Scholars are expected to maintin their good performance inorder to continue to receive the scholarships.

And you have not included the monthly miscellaneous fees which could range between $45 to $80 for O lvls & IP, resp. (Different schools have different fees though). For the 5th & 6th year (A lvls/IB), monthly fees are around $500. Morever, they are not fixed rates & will probably inflate over the years.
However, there is a MOE financial assistance scheme for a range of monthly gross household income, (but only) up to $7200.

Hi, I would like to know more about CHS. Many thanks in advance.
Hi just like to find out is Catholic High within walking distance from Bishan MRT ?

Most boys just walk. Not THAT far. If you really want, you can take a bus for ONE bus-stop
I am looking at OneMap: the bus stop at Street 22, is there a school gate located along this stretch of road?
Any idea by what time the boys have to reach school everyday for CHS ?

School starts at 8am. But I think need to be there by 7.45am ... maybe JonC or meiah can confirm.
Does school still start at 8am?

For its Sports and Games CCA, is there selection test that results in only the well trained can get in while the Uniformed Groups r for students who cant make it into Sports & Games CCA?

Many thanks in advance for the above clarifications.

Hi Jennifer, yes there is a gate after the bus stop link by a covered walkway

From 7.20 to 7.40am is reading period. Consudered late if arrive after 7.40am, when morning assembly starts

There will be a 2 to 3 weeks orientation, where a BURST program take up one 1. This is where the boys can try out the sports and uniform groups as well as the other CCAs like choir, drama, etc

They will invite those with potential to come back for 2nd try out or audition

Not true that those who cannot make it are push into uniform groups. The UG. In CHS are very popular, for example the scouts have to turn away some boys this yearr.

I dont think have to be well trained to get into sports. Of course there are some sports like volleyball or basketball where there are a number of DSAed boys, but still possible to get in, and there are sports which are not played in promary schools like softball and floorball…

We visited ACS(I) during the open house, one student told us it is almost impossible to get into Sports CCA unless one is already competently trained.

You looking out for CHS for your younger one?

                      Ya.

With the Circle Line in operation, I think CHS is not too far.

What do you think about CHS vs NJC? Would appreciate your advice since you hv a child in each institution.

I thought CHS would be able to offer greater choices in terms of CCAs and personal development for an extrovert. Am I correct to think so?
