      phankao:
      Jennifer:

I just finished reading from page 1 of this thread. Need some confirmation.

      1. Lunch hour- what is the latest arrangement?
      2. CCA- need to join only 1 core, right?
      3. Push ups punishment- still being practiced?
4.Maths HOD- still giving online test after each lesson? Students being punished if missed the test, regardless of whatever valid reasons?
      5. Retest score, max still 50%?

      Many thanks in advance.

      1. If I'm not mistaken, there is Lunch at 12+ to 12.50pm. There's recess too at 10+, I think.

      2. CCA should be 1 core. My boy already has 3-6.30pm 3x/week...have anymore CCA - die liao.

      3. Pushups - dunno. My boy did mention don't have.

      4. Dunno about that Math one - never really heard any complaints.

      5. Retest. Think so, but also haven't really heard about much retest except in Sec 1? Almost every term, my boy would fail at least 1 subject. ;(

Yes 1 short break and 1 lunch break

1 core cca from sports, uniform group or performing arts.

No push up. And didnt encounter any maths hod yet....

Retest yes only max 50%, idea is to be fair to those who clear 1st time round.

About the Maths thingy I think only my boy’s class kenna. No mercy for them. Poor boys. But there are just people who can maintain near perfect scores even under this kind of regiment. Salutes++.

Then there’s another episode when they had a Bio relief teacher who lamented about myriads of unrelated stuff during lesson time and didn’t dwell on the relevant. And then she’d throw tantrum at the boys every so often, once she tore the screen for the projector when she was in such a bout and everybody had to keep quiet about it. You’d probably ask me why. Because whenever anyone complains to the form teacher (whom I expect to 伸张正义), she’ll slam all objections down and nothing is to be heard of those after that, and the problems all seem to stem from the boys’ ‘bad’ behaviour.

Other than these random episodes of unhappiness which 增添色彩 for everyday life - as I’d expect would prop up every so often in most schools and workplaces - most people seem happy.

Ok, this is just from one perspective. You never know how a bunch of monkeys…no, boys, can irk you till no tomorrow and activate colourful and creative ways of self-protective reactions.

Honestly, I am scared after reading some of your sharing 😂

The other one was from phankao about the strong Indian accent Bio teacher.

            😉

Jennifer: That’s probably the one - the Indian accented Bio teacher. I must have missed the earlier posts.

Hiyah, these teachers are still so young, they’re also learning to get a grasp on how to manage youngsters.

I’m sure things like this happen rather often. It’s just ‘when’ you encounter them.

With the Circle Line in operation, I think CHS is not too far.
What do you think about CHS vs NJC? Would appreciate your advice since you hv a child in each institution.
I thought CHS would be able to offer greater choices in terms of CCAs and personal development for an extrovert. Am I correct to think so?

My these 2 boys are different. The older one suits environment like NJC - he's more independent, more mature, interacts well with teachers and seniors and juniors. The younger one needs more handholding.. haha.

Well, CHS is really very very much more traditional secondary school. Just go with the set old way. My younger boy fits that way better. Personally I find NJC way more interesting.

You have to see what matches your child.[/quote]

IP track is more suitable for independent learners who enjoy doing research & projects. Whereas O level is more for those who need guidance or prefer the proven traditional route.
