A's or IB?

which one is better to take if you want to get a scholarship to harvard?

If i’m not wrong, IB (International Baccalureate) is better as it is worldwide recognised. But for GCE "A" levels, i’m not too sure.

I would say IB.


These few years, the western countries have been looking up to IB Students more than A Level students mainly due to the students it produces. IB Produce students who are more all-rounded compared to A Levels because students will need to take up 6 different subject form different subject group. (First Language, Second Language, Science, Humanities, Music and Arts)

Moreover, IB Students will have to take ToK and do services

I’m quite a pro-IB person, but you should see more views about the A Levels too.

I don’t think HYPSM (that is, Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford MIT) makes any sort of distinction between A-levels and IB. (At least there isn’t such distinction in my experience)


Anyway, there are tonnes of 40+ pointers and straight A scorers for A-levels from Singapore, so they make their decisions based off other criteria - SAT scores, CCA, essays, teacher recommendations, interviews, etc… Quite a holistic (but unpredictable) process.

I have a friend’s daughter who went through ACS(IB) and in the end regretted her choice. Although they don’t go through the major As, the IB programme is very exhausting. I’m sure that scoring well for As will be able to get you to Harvard too.

how much harder is the IB than the O levels? … just a question, since from a sec. school, how much tougher is IB?

ACS(I) admits DDs for years 5&6 in the IB program.

IB-if you are heading to U in USA, Canada

A levels-if you are heading for local Us and UK

Just wondering, for top schools like RGS & Nanyang, they only offer IP program to PSLE students.


So these students will be transferred to RJC to do A level ?
