PSLE 2009 RESULTS!!

VitoRelax:
Sorry have to disagree with you that having 2 persons with the same raw score is quite remote.
While that is true but having 2 students with the exact raw score for all the 4 subjects are also quite remote though not impossible.
Question is, if that happens how does the software program work ?
Many moons back, when computer first came out, I volunteered to help my friend (a teacher then) to key in her class results using Lotus 123 (maybe most have not heard of it), a spreadsheet.
When I sorted the results, I found 2 students with exactly the same marks and I thought it was my mistake. After checking, it was correct. It can happen in a class of 40 because of the \"marking scheme\" - marks are awarded in \"blocks of 0.5\".
Based on the briefing (many moons ago) given by my kids' Pr school principal, (a very nice lady) the programme will prioritise by choice. I remembered clearly she keep emphasizing to us to put the school \"we want and we can get\" at least as the 2nd choice and not tikang tikang alway the first 2 choices. -

Such situation only becomes tricky when it's down to the last vacancy in that school. So perhaps they'll just allow both in for such rare cases.

I know where you are coming from. I have also been wondering about it but the MOE officer I spoke to keeps on insisting that no 2 person will have the same ranked otherwise how does their software algorithm works ?

Also, in the booklet given to us, it was highlighted in bold that the placement of school will be by \"MERIT BEFORE CHOICE\". So, no student be penalized & lose out a place in that school just because for placing it at a lower choice.
But, how does we reconcile all these facts together ? Will the marking system of the raw score be mark to the nearer quarter mark, ie to 0.25 ?
On a separate note, anyone happens to know:
(a) does A* in PSLE t-score means 91% and above ?
(b) does the A* given in the result slips based on raw score or after t-score formula has been applied ?
Thanks -
Anyone knows the top score for Marsiling Pri ?

VitoRelax:
The booklet is correct in stating that \"placement of school will be by MERIT BEFORE CHOICE\". Only problem is that it did not address the issue of a \"tie at the COP where the number of students with the same COP score being greater than the number of vacancies left\". Maybe Full-Cream is correct; if the number is not too big, I am sure the school can absorbed the extra students.

Just kay poh and checked my kids' PSLE result slips and there was no mention of mark range for A*. However, the school's report book did put in print that A* is \"91 marks or more\". As for PSLE, my guess is that it is \"91 marks or more after moderation to the raw score.\"
Interesting that you know where I am coming from. Care to share? -
Do not be discouraged with your son's result. Encourage him to work harder when he proceed to Secondary level.
There shouldn't be any comparison why others could do well and my son can't. Going for tuition, enrichment classes and spending lots of lots of money is not the only solution or good way to help him. It may indirectly kill off his interest, giving him more pressures and confuse him due to different method taught by the school and by the tutors or outside classes. Sit down with your son when he is revising or doing his homework, it would help and motivate him when you are there with him. You can do your own reading while he is doing his works.
Build interest in the subjects is very very important. Going for tuition but losing the interest could be the reason why he didn't do well. Sit down together with him and check with him what are the difficulties he is facing etc.
If your son knows that you are feeling disappointed and discouraged, it will indirectly affect his self-esteem. So tell him, work harder and he will be able to do better the next time.parentof3:
my son also didn't get what he expects. Only get 229. He cried. Can't go YTSS which is just 5 mins walk from homehashroop:
i just got back from school. Very disappointed with my son's results..he got 179 . 2c and 2b. I dont feel like reading this thread anymore because i keep seeing \"oh ive got 230, or 240, or 260 etc etc..\" Im happy for the all those who have performed well but why couldnt one of them be my son. We sent him from tuiton A to tuiton B to tuiton C. Spent $$$. Burnt the midnite oil..Prayed and prayed but what is the end results???
Hope someone can feel what I am feeling now.... -

I have just spoken to the MOE officer. She assured me that in their history, they have never come across a case where 2 students having identical score choosing the same school.
The booklet is correct in stating that \"placement of school will be by MERIT BEFORE CHOICE\". Only problem is that it did not address the issue of a \"tie at the COP where the number of students with the same COP score being greater than the number of vacancies left\". To bring the argument further, what if the 2 students with same identical score both put River Valley High as 2nd Choice & there is only one place left ? Who gets the place ?
Interesting that you know where I am coming from. Care to share?
Sorry, I am referring to \"I know\" which angle you \"coming from\" with regards to the point of discussion and not which area you are living in. Sorry for the misunderstanding .... -
Just curious.
For affiliated schools, do they go by points or %?
Eg, for ‘by point’, anyone from affiliated schools who has higher than 220 will be admitted. The remaining seats will be opened to those from outsider who applied.
‘by %’, the school ‘reserves’, say, 50% of seats for their affiliated schools (assume based on past records the points will fall within 210~230). The rest free-for-all!
Any idea? -
I’m the most stressful one around here.
My school has a consistent history of 27+ top scorers.
I’ve been wanting to beat my school record of 276, since P3.
My school’s a neighbourhood school, NTPS.
During results release, I got 257.
I cried, and people beside me laughed, hysterically, because I wasn’t qualified to go to schools like RI and Dunman anymore, which I was confident of.
I was the top in school, but a disgraceful top.
I feel overshadowed by all my seniors and feel that I’ve disgraced my school.
I canceled two schools off my list, and unwillingly added another two non IP schools.
People even think I am proud, and I am crying tears of joy.
Worst case? -

hi xxjustakidxx, 257 is a good score, don't need to feel disgrace. In all kinds of exam, there are many X factors in it and some are beyond your control and awareness. You are cancelling two schools off your list, but don't forget, there are still so many options for you. If you are really so persistance to go RI or Dunman, do extremely well in your Sec 1, get all the A1s and you still stand a chance to transfer to your \"preferred\" school in year 2. But who knows, after spending 1 year in your posting school, you might love it so much that you do not wish to transfer. You might meet many wonderful friends and teachers, with a good CCA of your choice. Then you would forget about your \"preferred\" school. I fully understand your feeling because my daughter was like that. But now, she is so happy with the posting school and life is beautiful for her.I'm the most stressful one around here.

I don't think you are in the worst case because definately in some part of the world, there are always others worse than you.
