PSLE is just one of the many milestones in our lives. Few parents in our community even remember what they scored in their own PSLEs, and no company actually judge employment candidates using PSLE grades. You should take PSLE as a learning process, and it is what you do after PSLE that determines what your future will be. If you did well in PSLE, the question is what you must do to continue to excel in your O-Levels, A-Levels, and tertiary levels. If you did not do well in PSLE, you have to decide if you will let this set-back mark you for the rest of your life, or if you should work harder to prove to yourself that you are a much greater person than the system deems you to be. -

Chief, you forgot about the IP program which is top 5% of cohort which will skip O levels, get direct into Top 5 JCs and mingle with doctors, lawyers, accountants and other professionals-to-be and almost 95% of which will get into a University or higher whether local or sponsored prestigious foreign Uni and then once you understand the BIG prize behind the PSLE, then you will understand why PSLE is so important now. It is the \"NEW O Levels\"!Hi arijit dasgupta, whatever will be will be.

Nothing matters to those who say \"Nothing matters\".

yup, dun worry. just hope for the best and make the best of whatever results u get! can always work harder in sec school to get good 'O' level results. as chief has mentioned, hardly anyone even ask to list PSLE results in the application for employment form.HELLO EVERYONE I AM A P6 STUDENT.I KNOW I AM NOT GOOD IN STUDIES,CAN SOMEBODEY GIVE ME AN IDEA HOW MUCH I MIGHT GET FOR PSLE IF I GET 91 FOR MATHS,85 FOR ENGLISH,80 FOR SCIENCE,AND 80-85 FOR MOTHER TOUNGE.I AM REALLY NERVOUS,AS I WILL BE GETTING MY RESULT IN LESS THAN 5 DAYS.CAN SOMEBODY GIVE ME A RANGE,I REALLY AM NERVOUS. eg(230-250)

chief, if i m not wrong, PSLE also looks at bell curve right? meaning how well one does really depends on how the whole cohort does as well right? -
foreverj:
PSLE is the \"New O levels\", look at the newspapers and compare how they report PSLE results Vs O levels results. PSLE at least 5 to 8 full pages while O levels is only 1/2 page.yup, dun worry. just hope for the best and make the best of whatever results u get! can always work harder in sec school to get good 'O' level results. as chief has mentioned, hardly anyone even ask to list PSLE results in the application for employment form.

Since IP students do not have O levels, I am sure one day employers want to see the PSLE results as well otherwise they will compare A levels results only to get an apple to apple comparison. That means O levels students who do not take A levels (70%) will be filtered out.
In most corporations, there are 2 career paths; one is Management and the other is Operations. To get into management, you need at least a degree to even pass through the HR dept to secure an interview. To get into operations, O levels or equivalent such as Malaysia's SPM, China/Philippines/Vietnam/Myammar/Indonesia high school cert, or skills certs etc is good enough for entry level to make sure the applicant can read, count and write.
Some good companies only take those with 2nd Upper Class honours or higher, which is equal to top 10% of University grads. Many MNCs employ only graduates to man their OHQ and RHQ offices while Operations are moved to China, Vietnam and Thailand already.
Singapore is moving toward Knowledge Based economy, a degree becomes a necessity, it is a matter of getting it sooner or later. Many poly grads \"upgrade\" to private degrees which may not be recognised, but they still have to take a chance or become bypassed for promotion. A rolling stone gathers no moss. -
For some of those people around my age whom I know (ex-classmates and friends etc of Selegie Primary School which does not exist anymore) I can gauge how a good set of PSLE helped them to be where they are today in their mid 30s;
1985 PSLE Agg 266 - Colonel ranked officer by early 30s
1985 PSLE Agg 254 - Manager in Japanese MNC
1984 PSLE Agg 363 - General Manager of local bank group
1987 PSLE Agg 265 - Senior Manager in Big 4 Auditors
1985 PSLE Agg 268 - Senior Executive in Petroleum Group -

Chief,
no company actually judge employment candidates using PSLE grades.
for the note above, one of my friends told me too, but she also added that precisely because of this, it is important to get into 'big name' primary schools, cos while the interviewers may overlook psle grades, the 'big name' of the primary school will stand out and make it a talking point among the interviewers, hence leaving a bigger impression. -

Getting into a big name primary school is based on the parent's efforts, how many parents volunteered as traffic wardens, reading moms, volunteer teaching assistants, librarian and excursion guides. I just heard from my Manager friend (the 254 agg guy in 1985 PSLE, now working in a Japanese MNC) that he volunteered as a traffic warden for the past half year while his son is in K1, so he has to do it for another 1 year at least until his son can hopefully smell the grass of NYPS. I applaud his efforts.Chief,

But it is getting into a top secondary school based on own merit in the PSLE that give employers the best impression. In my first job as a senior officer in PSA Corp after graduation, my then manager commented that my O levels are all straight A distinctions although my 2nd Upper Class honours degree and sponsorship for study award were keys to my securing the good job in the midst of the Asian Financial Crisis. My university lecturer told us that you need to impress your employers with strings of A and B grades for University modules and not C and D grades.

For my year (2001 PSLE), the top scorers whose names are on the MOE press release are now all doing very well. As far as I know/can find out:For some of those people around my age whom I know (ex-classmates and friends etc of Selegie Primary School which does not exist anymore) I can gauge how a good set of PSLE helped them to be where they are today in their mid 30s;
