PSLE 2009 RESULTS!!

During my kids' time the system is like that :Yes and No. The schools only take some from 2nd choice when after taking in all the 1st choice (agg must meet COP), they still have vacancies left. And if after taking in all the 2nd choice candidates (again agg must meet cut off), they still have vacancies left, then yes they take in 3rd choice.... if after taking in 1st choice candidates, they are full...then sorry GAME OVER for u.
And if you really know what you are doing (like you blatantly said), you won't be here asking \"i m wondering if i can make it to Nan Hua...\" why should you even wonder since you have all the information w you ??? Cool down & don't be jumpy.... think carefully... and if you think you have been very wise, then good for you. And sorry to have poke my nose into your business. Cheers :celebrate:
Top 290 get to choose first (definitely get her 1st choice)
2nd 287 turn to choose (if her 1st choice school has only 1 place and is already taken by the 290, then he/she gets her 2nd choice)
3rd 287 turn to choose (there are decimal places behind 287 that we don't get to see) - (if her 1st choice is not the same as that of the front 2 kids, then he/she gets her first choice)
So actually for those with high score, but miss the COP of TOP favourite schools, there is no harm putting them as first choice and their more realistic option as 2nd choice but I would say no point, sure cannot get one. (Unless the top 600 students somehow decide against RI & RGS)
The system is fair because the queue in awarding the choice is based on the aggregate.
However, for those in the \"mid-range aggregates\" where there are many with same score, don't play play. Your choice will decide who get the school.
E.g Ah Beng and Ah Seng both got exactly 230 and wish to go to Sure Good Sec (SSS). Ah Beng put RI as first choice (for fun) and SSS as 2nd Choice while Ah Seng put SSS as 1st choice. When it reaches their turn, there is only 1 place left in SSS. That place will go to Ah Seng because he put it as first choice. -
Thanks jitancat for your reply.
I will try to identify the problem with my son.
So need advice on Victoria School.
My son scored 245 (COP=246).
Do you think he would stand a chance?
2nd choice - TKSS or Chung Cheng?
Which is better choice?
TIA!

last year my daughter's classmate got 259 + 3 hcl, she apply nygh and didn't get in. she appealed but still rejected. If this year the national top raised by 3 pts, the cop of top schools wl bring up too.
noob:
My girl score 259 and distinction in HCL. Can advise if I should try NYGH at 1st choice? What will be the chances to get in? :?:

mathsparks:
mathsparks,i need to tell u something,i am neither tamil, chinese nor malay,u know,i am an indian, but not tamil,in india there are many languages, and i speak bengali,as my mom speaks bengali and is born in the state:west bengal.I take my mt from a different school, until A level.so in primary school i need not take mt thereso it does not matter if my mt is chinese or not.so after reading this do you think i can try nan hua?
arijit, do you take chinese? else y you considering nan hua/rv? don't waste time travelling elsewhere for yr 2nd lang lessons. rv cop is too high, you're just going to waste yr 1st choice. if i were you, i would put bpghs, since that's the closest cop to yours. Then nan hua (if you do chinese), followed by commonwealth then swiss cottage. Though cop of both commonw n swiss c are the same at 238, commonw is a band1 school while swiss cott is band3. you know what that means right? check out annex a1 if you're not sure. now, arijit, I've given you my advice. don't be rude to me or I'm not gonna respond to you.arijit dasgupta:
thank you very much mathsparks, your words always make me feel comfortable,by the way how do you think my choices of school are ans my grades also.(i hope i am not wasting your time)
ps:i live in jurong west -
Hi to all ,
Need some adv here....plsplsplspls help my girl so so sad ...
My girl's PSLE is only 243 +2 HMCL ...wanted so much to go RVH....but last year's COP was 254...should we try with this result....?She is very upset ..father was suggesting to try RV as 1st choice....since she has went for DSA and they even asked her for 2nd interview...the sch did reply but say depands on PSLE results....Any comments?[/quote]
I did very well, usually top 3 in school, in my primary school days and even had a nickname \"mathematician\" as I was usually scoring full marks for maths. But somehow I did very very badly for PSLE, maybe due to stressed. :stupid: Our time, no T score. I went to Bukit Ho Swee Secondary School ....VERY VERY upset. I had wanted to go Crescent Girls' School very much and my dad had aimed for Raffles Girls' School.
I picked myself up and go for next dream school - JC/poly and next dream uni ..... many hiccups .... And finally, I graduated with a First Class Honors in our local Uni, NTU, EEE, the only regret is my father was already not around to see my convocation.
Thus, not to worry, if your dream secondary school could not be fulfilled now, quickly go on to next best sec school first --- then go on to work on dream JC and ---> dream Uni. And next ---> career. As life goes on, dreams go on for you ....... -
tks jitancat 4 ur information. Will b going to the open house to check it out. Really headache abt choosing sch. Btw, anyone can tell me more a Anderson S S & Catholic High? Tks in advance !!!

I agree, dont try your luck. try to choose those sec school's cop close to your t-score.
if not, you wl end up in your 3rd or 4th, worst 5th or 6th choice of schools.atutor2001:
