And make him promise you to study hard if he gets into HCI, likely chance he will.
In additional, some children are not meant to be last or top in class or in school or in career as well, simply adaptation. Put him into a school with him as last, he will climb to the middle. Put him into a school with him as top, he will drop to the middle also..... So you will need to understand your child first .... i think.
I really like the way you portray on the various scenarios and I think it is the case in real life. Are you a teacher by the way? You sound really experienced here. Cheers

During my kids' time the system is like that :maisy:
Yes and No. The schools only take some from 2nd choice when after taking in all the 1st choice (agg must meet COP), they still have vacancies left. And if after taking in all the 2nd choice candidates (again agg must meet cut off), they still have vacancies left, then yes they take in 3rd choice.... if after taking in 1st choice candidates, they are full...then sorry GAME OVER for u.
And if you really know what you are doing (like you blatantly said), you won't be here asking \"i m wondering if i can make it to Nan Hua...\" why should you even wonder since you have all the information w you ??? Cool down & don't be jumpy.... think carefully... and if you think you have been very wise, then good for you. And sorry to have poke my nose into your business. Cheers :celebrate:
Top 290 get to choose first (definitely get her 1st choice)
2nd 287 turn to choose (if her 1st choice school has only 1 place and is already taken by the 290, then he/she gets her 2nd choice)
3rd 287 turn to choose (there are decimal places behind 287 that we don't get to see) - (if her 1st choice is not the same as that of the front 2 kids, then he/she gets her first choice)
So actually for those with high score, but miss the COP of TOP favourite schools, there is no harm putting them as first choice and their more realistic option as 2nd choice but I would say no point, sure cannot get one. (Unless the top 600 students somehow decide against RI & RGS)
The system is fair because the queue in awarding the choice is based on the aggregate.
However, for those in the \"mid-range aggregates\" where there are many with same score, don't play play. Your choice will decide who get the school.
E.g Ah Beng and Ah Seng both got exactly 230 and wish to go to Sure Good Sec (SSS). Ah Beng put RI as first choice (for fun) and SSS as 2nd Choice while Ah Seng put SSS as 1st choice. When it reaches their turn, there is only 1 place left in SSS. That place will go to Ah Seng because he put it as first choice.
I tot all with same score will get posted to that school... that is if they take 1 student with 230 , they will take all who has opted for that school in one of the 6 choices
Can anyone clarify this... i am parent of these 'Mid-ranger'... Help ... help please please

You can also apply with PSLE results but they are not featured in the MOE booklet and you can submit your option form while applying directly to these schools. I've received an email from NUSH encouraging DS3 to apply with his results. Their requirements is a minimum PSLE score of 250 with A* in Maths and Science. Though DS3 met the requirements, I have considered against applying. Moreover, last year COP was 260 and DS3 has a slim chance with his score.Just wondering for those with high scores 265 and above which apparently there are quite a few here, how come no one mention NUS high or the new science and technology high school as a choice ?
Is it because those schools are considered not elite enough ?
Or they only take in students through DSA ?

Oh and anyway has any comments on Deyi secondary school? -
DadOfGirl:
Definitely not true. Many years back, my niece with 263 (I think) opted for RGS. 263 was the COP that year. Her friends with the same score got in but she didn't. Many others with 263 also didn't get in. If they accept all with 263, there might be too many for the school to absorb. I believe if the additional students wanting to join exceeds by 1 or 2 then the school probably can accept.
l... that is if they take 1 student with 230 , they will take all who has opted for that school in one of the 6 choices.....
For such cases where there is a tie with all the students having opted for that school as 1st choice, how they decide is a question mark. Maybe by the decimal points behind the aggregate.
So for students whose aggregates are exactly at the COP of their \"choice school,\" there is a danger of being squeezed out if he/she didn't put the school as first choice. -
