      noob:

Please advise if 259 consider mid range?

No lah, 250 is considered Top 10% already. However, whether 259 is ''good enough'' depends on which school you are eyeing. 😎

Hi Fairy, pls give me some advise? My girl's 1st choice is NJC (COP 259) but is in dilemma on her 2nd choice as she has to choose among SCGS, MGS and BPGH. Which is a better school? She doesn't mind NYGH but her score 259 + 3 HCL = 262, will she stand a chance?

yes, during my time TK tech was also not impressive

but when my my gal took back some info cards (nicely packed in a pack) fr TKSS, i was impressed by their 2008 O level results, way above national ave distinctions. when u go down 2moro, take a pack of it, there're much info on it.
Thanks Augmum, yes impressive results. I saw it on their website.
But i will definitely ask for their info cards when i go down.

Thanks jinglebelle. I have been there already.

My friends that work in MOE confirmed that they have a list with decimal points.

          Question:

If applicant A with score of 250.123456 put school A as first choice while applicant B with same score of 250.123456 put school A as 3rd choice.

If there is only one place left, will the place goto applicant A because he put school A as first choice ?

          Thank you.

NJC has allocated more places under DSA this year compared to last year. Not sure if they are going to increase the total sec1 intake for 2010. If not, the number of vacancies left for Central Posting will be reduced. That MAY (may not) raised the COP for admission in 2010, depending on whether more students with high T-score apply for the school this year. Therefore, your girl's score of 259 (w/o HCL) is as risky 262 (w HCL) when applying for NJC and Nanyang Girls High respectively.

NYGH COP was 262 last year. Based on this, she stands a chance of getting a place. However, NYGH is getting a new principal, Mdm Heng, next year. Being a well-liked principal in NYPS, she MAY BE (may not be) able to ínfluence' more high-scoring NYPS girls to opt for NYGH instead of RGS. If more places have been taken up by high-scoring NYPS students, the COP for this year may be higher than last year's.

For SCGS & BPGH, she stand a very very high chance of getting a place. Of course, these two are in a different category from NJC & NYGH as they are non-IP schools.

I am not sure about MGS since most of the places would have been taken up by affiliated students & DSA applicants. ( I guess) You have to call the school to find out.

The above scenarios are based on my own analysis only. Best to call up or visit the school to find out more. Even then, it depends on your risk appetide. Actually, her chance of getting a place in NJ & NYGH is definitely NOT slim, but not 100%.

I can emphatise with you, it's not an easy decision. If it is for my child, I will definitely choose IP over non-IP. I am willing to go through the process of appealing if her results is that close to the COP. With 259, she should be able to get into BPGH ot SCGH (no guarantee) if she indicate these as her 3rd/4th choice should she not qualify for her 1st & 2nd choice.

You may wish to check with your friend. I understand that no two scores are the same. (even with the 6 decimals behind)

                Hi Nood,
i support the views of fairy. I would also go through the process of appealing if the results is that close to the COP and also IP over non-IP. so I don't have to go through this same thing again in 4 yrs time! Have you check HCI?

Hi Fairy and tree nymph, tks for your advice. By the way, my girl is not eligible for HCI. Base on Fairy's analysis, seems that putting NJC as first choice is more prudent as my girl's score meets their COP compare to NYGH (with popular Mdm Heng heading the school next yr). Am I right?

Hi, Need some expert advice. My son's score is 256, with Tamil HMT. He has set his heart on ACS(I)'s IB programme. The last year's COP for IB was 257/258. The process is to apply to ASC(I) and the school then offers some of the students IB, so no choice can be made from the students.

I am looking at IP programmes, if possible, so that no need to go thro' the O level torture again. NJC COP is 259,( too risky??). All other IP schools are SAP schools or dont have Tamil offered in school 😢 ...

Does anyone have any advice on chances of getting into ACS(I) IB with this score. Any other schools to consider ?? Thanks ...

                      Hi noob,
you can call the school up tomorrow and sound them out. with the HC, she actually meets the COP of NYGS too if the COP is the same as last year's. Therefore, i feel that the risk is about the same if you put either one school as your first choice. I guess you have to mentally prepare to start the appeal draft just in case you gal missed by a point or two.

                        Advice needed pls, 😢

Child has T-scole 258+2 -Which school should he go for ?

                        1) Dunman High -IP
                        2) Hwa chong Inst -IP
                        3) ACSI - IB (worry is that the school may not post child to IB as vacanies may be limited...)
                        4) RVHS COP -IP
                        5) NJC COP 260 - IP
                        6) SJI COP - O level

                        i) do u think we should choose IP over O level route?
ii) some schools offer school base gifted education programme, is it really important to choose such programme if child is from GEP ?
iii) does anyone know the no. of vacancies in each school ?
iv) do we need to opt for all 6 choices?

                        Thank you in advance :?:
