Yes, but if the purpose is to DSA with NSG participation, the parent should just ask the secondary school teacher. And I would advise to be very specific - because if the student pri school doesn't participate in NSG for the sport anyway, there are already limits to what the student can get out of NSG, for example, only participating in individual categories and perhaps only the lower categories which might not be useful in the first place (hence need to ask the secondary school what are they looking for ... and not assume)
Yes, agreed. However, as MYE references junior / senior and DSA, I think the kid is competing / wants to compete in the NSG primary section. -

Thanks Floppy, thanks for the reassurance, and i tried the link that you have attached, but it seems to have been deleted somehow, but thats ok, i will search for it in the homepage for NSG later and have a read.
I think you may have been mistaken. It is not 1 parent for 1 child. The NSG rule states only 1 Legal Guardian / parent of 1 of the student athletes can be appointed as School Adult Representative (Parent) (SAR(P)). Hence, if there are 2 kids who are competing, only 1 of the parents / legal guardian will be appointed by the school (assuming the school doesn't want to send in a teacher representative). Refer to Annex E of the https://nsg.moe.edu.sg/Public/rules_and_regulations/8573/%5BGYMNASTICS.
However, the above is on the assumption that the School Principal is willing to endorse and appoint the SAR(P). If the school is not keen to appoint or support, there's nothing much you can do. It would be good if you can speak to the school directly and highlight any past experiences you may have (e.g. volunteer with Singapore Gymnastics, holds a Fundamental Coach Accreditation, etc) if you want to be appointed.
If the school doesn't want to support, you can always take part in the open competitions like the National Championships and Singapore Open. For the purpose of DSA, I think a good performance in these open competitions are worth more than the NSG, as most coaches / teachers are looking for talents in these competitions (bigger pool) rather than the NSG (smaller pool).
My DD has already been taking part in Nat Chams and other competitions for the past 2 years, but was told by her coaches that although NSG is not a must in DSA, it is better to have it, that is why i have this understanding that those kids with added NSG experience will always gain higher chances to get a confirmed offer from the sec sch. And because her current school is not supportive, somehow she will always have a lower chances compared to kids who have NSG..

Hi Hendon, i get what you meant, so its better to check directly with the sec sch side on what is their least criteria (for eg by P6, do they need to achieve a minimum of level 4 or higher etc etc before the sec sch will even consider).

Hello everyone, we are currently overseas and am coming back to SG for good. My daughter is interested in competitive gym and is around level 3. We are considering CT gymnastics or Prime gymnastics, can anyone kindly share their reviews of the gym please. Thank you!

Can any parents advise which gyms/coaches for artistic gymnastics who have a good track record for producing winners at school and national competitions? My girl has been in a small private gym and she has shown potential, but her current gym is unable to provide adequate training for competitive gymnastics.
We returned to Singapore not long ago and her school does not offer gymnastics cca, so we really need help to point us to the right direction. We didnt know where to start so we just put her in a gym near our place. We don't know how to proceed from here and really need some insider info to help my girl.
I realise there is a governing body called Singapore Gymnastics, can I approach them for help with coaching? Any info or help will be greatly appreciated as we are really clueless about gymnastics in Singapore.
Hi, chanced upon this post and I’m in a somewhat similar situation - not sure where and how to proceed from here. Appreciate if any mummies can shed light.
Background: my girl was in level 3 in her previous gym but we left due to personal reasons. She then switched to this gym which apparently does not participate competitively outside it’s own gym but she has the potential for more. Her school does not offer gymnastics cca too. I saw from Singapore Gymnastics site that her current gym was not one of the clubs associated (the previous gym she was in was). Qn: how to allow more exposure for my girl in terms of competitions etc.? Do I need to sign up as member with Singapore Gymnastics and join a club under them to get started?
Thank you everyone. -
Is prime gym at TPY good? (7 year old)
