ACSI DSA fee is the highest at $80 because they use the HAST not GAT. HAST stands for High Ability Selection Test. HAST is a 2.5h paper vs GAT of perhaps 40 mins? DS sat for the test already. They have another round of HAST on July 8 or 9, I think. Total year 1 intake 180. DSA vacancies 90. Actually theirs is not the highest. NUS high charges $100 for dsa camp on top of the $50 registration fees.ApronMama:
ACSI is not in the \"A\" league as that of HCI and RI, so difficult to do apple to apple comparison. Wonder why ACSI switch to the \"IB\" league?
Even though, heard their dsa very difficult to get an offer and their dsa charge is the highest.
ACSI said they switched to IB league because they believe it is more superior, and the programme produces more well-rounded students. It claims to be more relevant to modern society needs and nuture thinkers instead of route learners.
Hi RSS, Need some feedback - heard from one of my students that the General Ability component of the HAST was \"totally non-verbal and all picture patterns\", according to him exactly like the GAT in Raffles. Another said there were some logic, verbal reasoning and code type questions as well, which is what is consistent with last year. Could you check with your DS? Worried I may have given wrong info to someone who was asking! Thanks... -
I personally think that the use of the word \"gifted\" in Singapore's GEP is a misnomer as the Gifted Education Programme encompasses only a very specific aspect of \"giftedness\". And to label a child \"gifted\" can be a very big hat for some 10 yrs old to handle.
I prefer the term \"Talent Development Programme\" used by some Sec/IP schools.RSS:
Actually gep in Singapore is no big deal. Heard from an expat the gep STD here is low compared to other countries. So don't treat them differently. My ds ge classmates all behaves like normal kids. They are all intelligent but when it comes to play, they are just like normal 12 years old. Yes their learning needs are diff. I would see ge kids in Singapore as high learning ability, normal kids.

Hi ktc100,
DS sat for the ACSI HAST. There were 3 components, i.e. Reading Comprehension, Mathematical Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning. The test lasted for about 2.5hours. Hope this helps. -
Hi ngbrdad,
Just find out from a list given from ds school that the GAT sessions of RI are 21,22 and 24 Jun, 8,13 and 15 Jul…
Just wonder other then GAT, interview, does geppers need to go for its ‘half day selection test’??? -
vlim:
No GEP pupils need not attend half day selection camp. Geppers with SA1>80% just need to do interview, <80%, interview and GAT.Hi ngbrdad,

Yeah like RSS has said, half day selection test is for those who applied under the academic domain where they will be tested on the subject they applied for I presume.Hi ngbrdad,

We actually requested for GAT date on 8/7 but was told that GEP students are usually scheduled for earlier GAT so that they can have the interview earlier. -
Hi KTC100,
DS now zzzzz… Anyway we didnt prepare DS for HAST, neither will we prepare him for the RI GAT. So far 320 boys have sat for the ACSI HAST. There will be another round on July 8 or 9. All of DS classmates including DS himself finds the HAST easy. So it is a matter of relative performances, which is dependent on their own ability. Best advice is no need to know format, no need to prepare, just go and do it and enjoy the paper.
