U Must B so Happy and Relief ....
She applied DSA for Mxx and SCGS and got confirmed offer from SCGS and waitlisted at Mxx. Friends told me that waitlist also stands a very high chance if you put them as first choice. At first, still hesitating which school to place at 1st choice, we went for SCGS dance performances and really impressed by the SCGS dancers with their dance skills and technique, think the performance really boosted the confidence and self-esteem of those taking part. My ds have decided to accept the offer given by SCGS and now she came home with a smiling face daily since first day of school. I am sure she got herself a right choice…..Funx3:
I'm Sure Your Gal Has Good Dancing Skill that Impress the Panel of Teachers during the Audition.
Sometimes During Graded Exam, Kids can B Nervous and Miss a Step or Two, Or Turn in the Wrong Direction .... And That Caused them the Near Miss to Distinction ....
By the Way, How Many Schools your Gal DSA for? and How's the Success Rate?

Kudoo to Both U and Your Gal ....

Grade 5 ballet cert and Pri 5 & 6(CA1 & SA1) has to be submitted during the application, school will select some for audition about 2 weeks after the application dateline. Some of my friends told me that distinction is required from grade 1-5 but my dd scored Grade 1,2,4 in distinction but only 73 for G3 and 70 for G5, and she didn't take up jazz and Chinese dance lesson before.

it seems like ballet is easy to get recognized than chinese dance since ballet is in grade system with certificate whereas you got to achieve solo dance medal (not group medals) in performance/competition in chinese dance, pls correct me if i am wrong.
chinese dance DSA is only applicable for those chinese focus secondary school, such as raffles girl, nanyang, right? -
amylqf:
SOTA is adopting IB system - 6 years to A-Level.
i heard SOTA academic not so good, true?
Got Some Very Good Students with high T-Score in their School as Well.
My Gal's Senior's Mum and Her DH (Dead Against it!) is Not Convinced Either last Year on SOTA education for her Gal - But has changed their View after attending their Symposium (Or Open House? Can't Remember ....)
So May B we should keep an Open Mind and Keep Our Option Open ....
I'll Probably attend their Symposium / Open House and Find Out More ....
May B U wish to Attend to See Too ....
Anyway, their Admission is PURE-ly by Audition Only ....amylqf:
U R Right on Ballet Being More Recognised ....it seems like ballet is easy to get recognized than chinese dance since ballet is in grade system with certificate whereas you got to achieve solo dance medal (not group medals) in performance/competition in chinese dance, pls correct me if i am wrong.
But Chinese Dance Training is Very Structured Too ....
They have Graded Exam from Grade 1 to 13, conducted yearly by the Beijing Academy of Chinese Dance - Examiners R from Beijing Academy.
The Test consisted of 6 to 8 routines where the Gals will B Graded on Flexibilty, Dance Movement in Tune to Music, etc ....
After Grade 13, the Gal can Pursue a Diploma in Chinese Dance ....
For Dance Competition, Chinese Dance R Often Done in Groups ....
Frankly, I Enjoy Watching Chinese Group Dance Choreography more than Ballet as there R More Variety of Themes, Movements, and Look Very Grand with So many Talented Dancers Doing so Many Acrobatic Movements on Stage.
But OF Course I Enjoy Watching the Great Tutu Costumes and Music accompaniment with the Colourful Ballerina on stage in Ballet Performance as Well. Ballet Competition can B Solo or in Groups, as Well.
Only the Very Good Ones Get to Perform Solo, However.amylqf:
RGS does not have Chinese Dance, Only International Dance.chinese dance DSA is only applicable for those chinese focus secondary school, such as raffles girl, nanyang, right?
But they DSA from Ballet, Chinese Dance, etc from What I heard ....
Yes NYGH has Chinese Dance, But Heard Very Tough to Get in thru DSA ....
May Have to Talk to My Gal's Dance Teacher / Seniors' Mum to Find Out Which Other School Has Chinese Dance DSA, though .... -

Anyone has actual experience with applying for DSA specifically under Chinese Orchestra CCA (not MEP)? For Boys? Which schools did your child try?
