DSA 2011

Very long, meh? Last time I remember in 2009, my ds took test in 1st week of July. Results got to Australia wat. We received the shortlist plus a printout of the results (whoa! they actually give us the results profile!) by beginnning of the last week of July and to go for the day selection camp on 1st saturday of August. Interview was a little late though. End of August after PSLE Oral. So obviously, the Confirmed Offers were only sent out in first week of September. NJC made FULL USE of their time dateline though, I remember. The last date for offer/rejection letters to be sent out(MOE's dateline for DSA) was 4th Sept. We received EXACTLY on that date. The cutest part about it, when we checked letterbox at 5pm - nothing from NJC! But my friends say they receive. So later at 7pm we check again - wow, have. Never though our SingPOST so hardworking, send mails 2x a day!
I don't know about now, but 2 years back, NJC was very slow is processing DSA stuff. Results took super long to come back. Looks like it's pretty much still the same now.
I know some used copies of the test to send to schools like ACSI or MGS though, bc they missed the test there due to clash in dates/time. And these 2 schools actually accepted. Most interesting was that for at least one of them, they gave Confirmed Offer while NJC itself gave Unsuccessful letter. -
Actually hor..I pretty like MGS and hope my girl girl can get in there in future. The girls look good and decent in their white top and blue skirt uniform. Almost all that I saw on the road, look very good good girls
..but i think, at this point of time, my dd can only go the 2nd tier good school..

The selection process is not particularly clear, and you just want to have some backup. What if the school are looking for other aspect beside the academic results?
But good for the ego and self esteem mah. Some see it as trophy for collection...never one too many!Blur Dad:
Yes, yes, I knew some GEPers who scored >90% for SA1 and confirm going to RI and yet apply DSA for HCI, ACSI and NUSH.
Someday they can tell others....been there, done that! -

Hi I emailed them last night and they just replied that they have received my cheque. So I'm relieved.Pen88n:
Can I ask parents whose kids applied for NJC, how long do you have to wait for the email on the test detail after sending them the cheque by post ?
Very long....sent early Jun no reply todate yet.....and I too lazy to follow up. Maybe should call to ask them tomorrow.
If you happen to call, please please update in forum. Thanks
Just waiting for the email on the test detail, not calling them anymore.
Yes, just got online and I emailed them last nite about payment too, and they replied received and would email details these few days. -
ngbrdad:
No la. Their last day for payment varies based on when you send your application. My last day of payment was stated as mid Jun.
Yeah they should at least sent payment acknowledgement reply. Parents who never receive a reply by today will feel uneasy as it's the last day for payment to reach them.zeemimi:

Not just the selection process. Many parents and students also dunno what they want so just go for what everyone considers the top few or so and then decide later.
Anyway, I would suppose some of the IP school are not going for the very top students. No point fighting with HCI and RI for these top students when they will eventually choose one of them and result in their own DSA process becoming meaningless. Perhaps some of the other schools will still choose some of the top but concentrate more on the next 10% of the cohort, and look out for those who are active student leaders or have records of being active in community services or have other non-academic achievements, kinda all round students. -

Since last year (I think), selection camp and interview are on same day. For this year, it will be after PSLE Oral - that's not very ideal timing as most schools will be busy with prelims by then.

By then the DSA results of some schools like NUSH and maybe RI will be out already. Those who have secured places may decided to skip the camp all together.

Hi need some advice here. My dd is currently taking advance shooting cse in the sports school. They are setting up a new shooting academy and invited my dd to DSA. I'm worried about her future if she did not shine in either the sports or her O level. But she likes the shooting very much and has no confidence to get into RGS to join their shooting CCA. What should I do?
How serious is your dd about shooting and is she sure that she wants to pursue it for the next 4-6 years? If she is, then perhaps she could try out for the Sports School. I don't know how strong SSS is academically, but they do offer IB as well don't they?
If she just intends to pursue shooting as a CCA and represent the school, then maybe a mainstream school may be better. There are several other schools which offer DSA through Shooting. You might want to try out for these as well although applications may have closed already.
Those school with shooting CCA DSA like Ahmad Ibrahim which she donn't like and RGS has no DSA for shooting. Furthermore she only pickup shooting this year at SSS not as a CCA in her current school.
