Blur Dad:
Hi blur dad, did your friends ds with sa 79.x and maths award eventually get into ri from wait list status? My ds same case above 79.5 below 80 with platinum snips and grade 8 piano achieved two years back. Looks like he will be on waitlist. I will prepare him for waitlist status after the interview. But would like to know chance if on wait list. His p5 was 83%. Thanks

      Hi RSS

Don't worry, I have not finished the 2nd part of the story yet.

Yes, my friend's DS has placed RI-WL as his 1st choice in the DSA form(not sure what is the form call), eventually got into RI. Only knew the result on the day when he received the PSLE result. I guess due to his DS result was in high end of 79.x%, therefore his WL ranking is very high, would be the first few to consider when someone give up the place. While one of his DS classmate, who score was lower then him, also on WL but did not get into RI even he selected RI-WL as first choice.

Base on your DS result and awards, I guess he stands a very good chance to get into RI. Not to worry....

      All the best.

Doesn't SMOPS Platinum stand a very high chance in getting CO for DSA, despite 79.x in SA1?
high chance for HCI DSA but not for RI

Above 3.8 is considered very good? Only in RI, I suppose.

What is considered very good in your opinion?

hey, it's only bc different schools have different criteria, so I've not thot about it. RI uses 4.0 max GPA, but other schools use 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, so when a parent just randomly gives a 3.8 GPA as very good, it may not make sense to all, KWIM?
I see. What's the max GPA in NJC? Always curious to learn something new. 🙂

          another over generalisation

RI population : sec 1 to 4, 450 each = 1800; + J1 & J2 : 1200 each = 2400, total population = 4200. How many really have tuitions given their very packed time table ? based on 6 RI boys seen coming out from tuition centre ?

          断章取义!

vk2010, my chinese isn't that good. What do the words in chinese mean?

          out of context

as in, chop off a line from a book and make a thesis out of it

What school is he in now? If he's in co-ed he must be very popular with the girls.
he is in RI, also in Euler program (and Galileo program too, I think)

                  What're Euler and Galileo programs?
Euler is the pull-out class for math, selected via test and interview, 3rd year running it, class size is 15 for 2011 sec 1. They don't join the rest of the cohort for math lessons except for end of year exam. SMO competition is treated as their assignment

Galileo is the pull out class for science.....just like math.

Following the maths Olympiad thread. There are 75 smops platinum holders. Ds also came in among top 30 in nus high nmos, for acsi maths Olympiad he also came into the highest category. The only maths olympiad which he didnt win the top category is ri world maths contest. Looks like he and ri are not to be. But it is ok, we like acsi and nus high too just that it is much farther in distance. Didn’t apply hci.
