I am just wondering whether the purpose of keeping GEP classes at Sec 1 and 2 (RGS and NYGH also practice this) is purely for administration reason.

Social Studies for GEP is an examinable subject and they have covered up to the Lower Sec syllabus for SS. So if it were to be a mixed class, then it might be difficult to teach since some would have covered the topics while others, not. The same applies to other subjects like Math where some Sec 1 topics were already covered.

I supposed by the end of Sec 2, all kids would be on par in terms of coverage of curriculum and hence Sec 3 streaming would be based on academic results in end of Sec 2.

I read in the past RI thead that in RI they also have GEP class and non-GEP classes for the first two years. Only some of those selected mainstream students are put in GEP classes just like in current primary GEP centre now. From yr 3 onward, the different in subject combination will deter which class the students will go. Similarly in HCI, come to sec three they will also have to choose which subjects combination go to their respective elected subject classes. These classes could have pp from ispark or other consortiums.

        Hi

Anyone who has attended the HCI selection test for SMOPS award winners and Sport domin can share their experience? How is the interview? I understand it was conducted in group, like 3 teachers to 3 students. How is the Math, Eng and Chinese test? Tough?

        Thank you
Hi BD, The DSA selection test for SMOPS is same as mainstreamers just that they get to skip math test.

          Ashton:
Went through the letters of DS1 (yr 2008) just for reference:

ACS(I) CO was dated 31 July
RI rejection letter was dated 13 Aug
HCI CO was dated 18 Aug

All before Psle Oral...after which could see he was more relaxed and not so stressed and was watching the Olympics everyday! And his results showed - below expectations! Told DS2 that if he got a CO, he should and MUST still work hard. πŸ™‚
Thks ashton again for your info!!..... Emmm a long wait for the DSA outcome

I have this worry too when my ds was selected to join ispark. For eg History vs SS in Primary GEP. They still begin with Singapore history and stuff. There exists GEPer in his class who did not study properly cos though they already know in the past, did not do well. His Science lessons are more inquiry base though similar topics as other consortium, but we found certain topics could be touched on in sec 3 of other consortium appear in their sec 1 topics.

anyway, good luck to all of us πŸ™‚

Then it will be a mad rush to pay for the camp fee if selected.
