DSA 2011

Hi, this is my first time posting but I have been reading kiasu for a long time. Thank you everyone for sharing so I thought I should give back. My dd was interviewed at RI yesterday. While I was waiting, I noticed that there was either a vice principal or prinicipal in every room, so I don't know if the students were grouped differently. My dd's questions were:
a) What world problem would you like to solve?
b) tell us about your project/portfolio
c) What difficulties you encountered as a leader?
d) Would you choose RI or HCI?
e) What is one personal strength?
I hope this helps. Good luck :lovesite: -

Thank you thank you...so touched by all the well-wishers here :lovesite:OrangeJuice:
finally i received update from RGS, DD will be attending selection test on 23 Jul. Good luck to all other girls attending the half selection tests

Congrats OrangeJuice....nice to hear news of mainstreamers being selected...hope ur DD will pass her selection test....all the best:)
heard many girls will be 'eliminated\" after half day selection test, I told DD just do her best and even if she didnt get selected after the whole DSA process it is still OK, just have to be focused and work hard for PSLE. -

Hi,
Which schools did your dd apply for aside from SOTA? And which ones has she heard back from?Maisu:
To jitoh,
Your calculations were right! It all started with where, thru wat??? After her school open house on secondary schools, she set her mind on a particular school which we strongly disagreed but after consideration, we supported her as that was her dream school, than she was supposed to pick another school just in case... N one after the other she wanted to try, so we went ahead. but I believe too that it might b stressful for some kids, but my DD enjoys it, to her it is just another tests, not a study subject, so do her best.
But I must admit, I am the one who is more kang cheong of the outcome after I was introduced to the kiasu forum and this is a GREAT FORUM!!!
Am impressed, u sure did yr homework, ( u even know about... RGS, NYGH, SCGS n NUSH. she did not make it to NUSH. -

Hi,
Am impressed, u sure did yr homework, ( u even know about... RGS, NYGH, SCGS n NUSH. she did not make it to NUSH.[/quote]haha! No need to do homework. You mentioned your dd applied for 3 CCAs, one academic and one TA. TA = Theatre Arts = SOTA.
Good luck on your dd's applications.

To jitoh,
Ha ha, I tot I could create some suspension, actually I was the one whom blur n don know wat was TA they were referring till my DD told me. My calculation mistake, itโs 2 cca n 2 academics, 1 TA. Told her she might end up with no CO, but is good enough to pull thru GATs. -

Just wondering are students in the high ability or twinning classes considered as mainstream fro DSA ?
These are the students chosen by MOE based on the GE selection tests to take part in the special programme.
Anyway most of them should be good with math.
Noticed from DS's cohort most of these students applied DSA for NUSH and NJC.
Would be considered mainstream. My son was in twinning in p4, but opted out when he chose not to do HCL in p5/p6. -
jtoh:
jtoh, Agree With Your View Totally.
If your dd doesn't have exceptional ability in a particular subject or CCA, then you should consider giving DSA a miss and focusing on PSLE instead. Your dd's results are good and she'll be able to get into a good school based on her PSLE results.margaret:
Hi.
After reading the comments on DSA. I started to worry... My girl is P5 this yr. No CCA. No achievements. Not class monitor or prefect.Took part in few competition but never win. Results up to date. English(88)Science 88,maths 80,chinese 85.HCL 86. HOW to DSA???Any advise before it is too late???Thks.
:?
Bear in mind that DSA isn't for everyone. It's for students demonstrating EXCEPTIONAL ABILITY OVER AND BEYOND their peers. The trend now is for parents to think that DSA is a must. It isn't. And schools will advise students who are overall strong in all subjects but not exceptional in any one subject to forget DSA and focus on PSLE.
Even If One has Exceptional Good Performance in CCA, Also Subj to Academic Results, GAT test, Interview Performance ....
Not a Direct Shoo-in ....
The Best Course is thru Good PSLE Results .... -

Congrats Orangejuice.
You are right, many will tend to be eliminated in second round.Heard from dd's classmates many who went for RGS 9th July selection test, but never get any news at all.All of them are taking it as no news is no more hope.
