Didnt receive any news from RI regarding the interview for my DS. 😞 So it's bad news. But he's attending the NUSH camp this sat..... keeping my fingers crossed

Hi when did your ds go for RI interview?.. As stated in their website the final results will be out by around 29/8 by mail .....

Oh no, my ds havent gone for the RI interview. Just the test. But because I read about some parents posting about their children who went for RI interview on 19 July, that's why I thought my son was not shortlisted for the interview. maybe those postings I read are referring to Y2 dsa????

Just called RI actually. They said my ds is indeed not shortlisted. 29/8 u r referring to is the date of final result (after the interview).

So what did your DS said about RI's weakness ?

He say he has so far minimum contact with RI, and therefore not able to observe any weakness in RI. For those time he had spent with RI, he was definitely impressed. One of the boy in his group answered that the incident of the boy swimming out of Tekong, who happen to be from RI as a bad impression he had of RI, :yikes:

Very diplomatic answer from your DS lol.
How did the other boy know about the Tekong swimmer ? Was it in the papers ?[/quote]Don't know where the boy got the information, but that was an interesting answer.

The news was indeed reported in the newspaper last week. It even mentioned that he was a Science student.

I am not the horse, but I do see that we have too many of the same kind in one school, exposure to the diversity of the society will be limited. We used to have better spread among the schools, during a time when parents are not so well informed, and therefore, a better spread of students to more schools. Now, we all tends to herd our children to the better known and prestiges school if our children are able to make the cut, I am guilty to be one of them.

                  hey Twa Tau,

care to elaborate on \"we have too many of the same kind in one school\" means?

mine was asked (not in order):
                  1. say something interesting abt yourself
                  2. what computer game u play
                  3. what other sch u DSA to (didnt ask why)
                  4. what do u want to achieve thru RI
                  5. what do u do during spare time.

one specific qn for each boy which dialogue expanded from there.

                    Three weaknesses of RI:

                    1. The comaraderie of a student’s life is not as pleasant as it should be due to internal intense competition to excel. Personal interest takes precedence here. Of course there are many buddies too.

                    2. Due to its indept academic talents, it’s dam difficult for a bright kid to shine unlike other good sec and jcs. A PSLE T-score of 270 or 8-9A1s in 0-level do not mean much here.

                    3. Too of the same thinking applying for PSC/A*/GOVT Scholarships and top uni courses like medicine/dentistry/law so much so that during interviews, the prospective scholars/students must think out of the box to convince the interviewers.

RI does not do O levels, do they ?

scholarship interviewees from other schools’ output don’t need to think out of the box ? what is out of the box to one may be in the box to others, no ?

intense internal competition means cannot shine ? why the necessity to shine ? why must shine (and show off??) ? so what if some one who shine in another school so brightly but yet cannot get an single A in the A levels ? so what is the point about shining ?

so if 200 out of 1200 all get GPA 4.0 (RI’s max score) and all gets perfect score of 90 for NUS admission, anything wrong ? is it a weakness if half the cohort get 3 or 4 distinctions? so if half the faculty of medicine and half the faculty of law are from RI graduates, anything wrong ? It also means the other half faculties are from other schools, anything wrong ? Anyone who wants to get into those faculties will just need to complete for it, by merit.

at least if one is sick or gets into trouble with the law, half the doctors or half the lawyers can help him/her…not bad lah!

in any city and every city, there are super school / elite schools that the very bright / brightest gather, it is a natural thing. like it is said, iron sharpen iron, from there it produces excellencies and advancement in knowledge. I dare say those in RI who are among the top scholars and top scorers are doing much more beyond the normal A level scope and they deserve what they score. anything wrong in working hard to score well? and play hard too !

Entrance to RI via dsa can be achieved during psle, sec2 and 0-level intake during jae.

In this instance must use another analogy to support my view, you think is eaiser for our chinese imported table tennis talents to represent Singapore or China? Why do these talents bother to come to here?
