DSA 2011

HHi Jtoh, But sadly, kiasuparents will not self imposed hence MOE shld just put a ‘cap’ to it. And that will ‘force’ the parents and kids to decide and commit to their DSA application.
Otherwise, the school has to process so many application and end of the day you just say bye bye to them…
We have to teach the kid to be responsible and not based on the ‘wat if’ (e.g falling sick) scenario and cast so many safety nets for themselves. -

Thanks for sharing lizawa. Some food for thought, really.
I know one boy who dsa into 4 schools and got confirmed offer from all 4. And i know another boy who dsa into more than 5 schools and got 1 confirmed offer from 1 which is not his \"dream\" school but just apply because he wants to play safe. In the end, his PSLE results meets the COP of his dream school, but appeal fails and he has to stick with the DSAed school.
My point is, if you are good, you will get into the school of your choice, either by DSA or otherwise. if you are average, your chances will be low for DSA, so why bother to apply for so many, just target 1 or 2 dream schools. If it doesn't work hard, PSLE is the other chance.
Agree with you. -

I know what you're saying, but I personally do not like authorities dictating our actions. As parents, we have to take the responsibility for our actions and for our kids' actions and to teach them what's right. Teaching of values begins at home, not dictated by authorities. That's my opinion anyway.
I think parents who over-apply to schools, especially to ones they have no intention of attending but merely to have as safety nets, will come to realize that it was a waste of time, effort and money. Especially when they have to appeal for transfers etc.
Hopefully parents reading the forum will gain some insight from parents who've been through it and limit their applications to just the 1-2 ones they're keen on. -

I agree. And if you can't get in via DSA nor PSLE, maybe that school's not suitable for you and you might be better off in another school.

I think there shld be a cap to the no. of DSA a child can apply for.
So as not to rob others from of their opportunity in getting into their dream..
By having safety nets for yrself, you may end up being a 'road block' for others who want to get into their dream school..

the kids / parents should use DSA for their dream school only, max may be 2, 3 is a stretch, 4 is tikam tikam already
if can get it, get it. else just join the S1 posting to rank the 6 choices -

After ALL, ONE Child can Attend and Confirm ONE Sch ONLY, Right?
By Taking up the Confirm Offer in ONE Sch,
Automatically, ALL Other CO places reserved will be Available for the Next in Line on the Waiting List.
So Don't See NO Road Block.
By the Way, I Don't Really Advocate to Go For more than 2 to 3 schools for DSA. May Spread Oneself Too Thin - And Clashes in Schedules as Well, I'm Sure.
Have Read in this Forum that by Going for GAT Test / Interviews in One, May Miss attending the Camp in Another ....
Why Burnt and Exhaust Ourselves Out, En Route to PSLE?
If Can, Relax Relax, Get Our Kids Excited over it, (But Not Over-Do It), And Enjoy the Process Along the Way ....
