Thanks for sharing, and ALL the Best to Your dd for her DSA in SOTA ....
congrats TREX8 and of course your DD...one hurdle downTREX8:
Holidays finally over and packed kids off to school. Now got time to post DD's SOTA Talent Academy for Theatre Studies on 14 March.
Session was from 8 am to 3.15pm. Students were split according to art form that they audition for - hence my account applies only for those applying for Theatre Arts. However, I should think the topics for writing (which is compulsory regardless of which Art Form your child is auditioning for) should be the same and there might be some overlap for interview questions.
Following the welcome address by the Principal, students headed off to different venue depending on which art form they are auditioning for. For Theatre Studies, students were split into 3 groups (about 10 plus students per group). They started off with ice breaking activities and some other activities led by a teacher. There were 2 observers in the room - one from the Academic side, and the other from Theatre Studies.
After lunch break, some students proceed to do their monologue cum interview while others headed off to take the writing test.
DD did the monologue first. She said she was led into a room with 3 persons - 2 were the same observers from the group activity and the third person is a new face, probably from Theatre Arts.
After doing her monologue, DD was asked to read aloud a passage. Then she was asked questions like \"Why SOTA?\", \"Why Theatre Arts?\" and \"Recount a memorable incident.\"
Then she proceeded to do her writing test. They were given 3 topics to choose from. She wasn't too clear about the exact wordings but roughly \"What are the qualities of an artistic person?\", \"Are hobbies important? Why?\". She simply couldn't remember the last topic.
Session ended at 3.15pm and when I picked her up, she told me that she has enjoyed herself tremendously and felt rather good about her monologue and interview.
So, one down for us. Next on agenda - open house on 21 May.

To all parents who are planning for DSA for their children,
We are sharing some tips on DSA in our blog below:

All the best as you embark on this journey with your child. -
Funx3:
Tks for the positive words Brenda10, Mum1113 and Funx3. DD enjoyed herself as I think there is no pressure on her as most kids who auditioned for Theatre Studies are more or less on the same footing - that is, no prior training or grading (unlike music, visual arts and dance).Mum1113:

It was also not all smooth going for her - she said that she didn't get to complete reading the passage given to her. The panel asked her to stop halfway. So DD said it is either they have heard enough to decide that SOTA wants her, or they have heard enough to decide that she is not suitable for SOTA. -

Good luck to your dd!

Thank you for sharing. My DD is very shy and quiet. Iβm very worried that she may not look confident and well spoken during the audition for dance in June.

Before going for her TA, I brainstormed with DD some of the possible questions that might be asked during the interview. Then I asked her to think about how she would answer these questions. She typed out the questions and her answers and we went through together. I gave some suggestions and we rehearsed abit. Maybe you would like to try with your DD at home prior to her TA.
During the TA, kids would be nervous and it would be challenging for them to think of responses to questions on the spot and some may be tongue-tied. Since your DD is the shy type, maybe you would want to role-play the interview session at home? Try to rope in other family members and/or friends to form the panel.
I also asked her to think of how she would introduce herself to the panel. -
