My daughter scores about 90 in English ( P5 and P6 CA1). She was 1st in the level in P5 and participated in the inter-school debate but her team did not win. She won a silver in maths olympiad. Her maths results in school is around 96. Should she apply for RGS DSA or just focus on PSLE? She wants to apply through english DSA. Can anyone advise me on whether she stands a chance.

Why not applying DSA under Math domain?

If your dd is planning to only apply for one DSA, then give it a try. She'll have to sit for GAT, a test for her academic domain, and finally an interview, if she makes it through each round. It won't take up that much time if it's just one school she's trying out for. Having said that, my friend's dd was top in her school all through primary school, on the school debate team, applied through English, but didn't get in through DSA.

Primary schools' exam papers are all about the same standard, so which primary sch is not so important, I once found the P6 maths papers of a neighbourhood sch much more difficult than Raffles girls. I agree with LLK, for top students, just focus on psle. :D[/quote]agree with both LLK and sall,
if the child is doing consistently well in school from P4- P6,
in the position of top few in the sch cohort,
likely to get agg of 260 and above.
so juz put in full concentration and focus on PSLE, dun waste time in DSA. (of course, u can try for 1 or teh most 2, no harm)
DSA is inclined towards the GEPers.

Thank you for all the replies. I heard that maths domain is very competitive. My dd has only got a silver. Tough to compete with all the golds n platinums.


Verykiasu2010, are your ds n his classmate in gep? My dd is from mainstream.

ks2011, Math domain is the most competitive. You have to compete against those with Gold and Platinum and getting gold (even platinum) doesn’t guarantee you a place. So English is a better option. Less competitive for sure.
