A colleague told me that IB programme is a much more recognised programme (compared with A Levels) for uni in US. Anyone has more info to share on this?
Yes, I think it is true. One of my friends during her 2-year stay in states wanted to pick up a course but none recognized her Singapore certs. She had diploma from SP, n they told her that is not IB - they only recognize IB. But not sure what RI n HCI will do to help the graduates get into these overseas schools.

the link above gives a more complete information on uni application around the world
US Applications :
When and How to Apply
Applications to US universities must be done through Naviance and the Common Application and as a student of Raffles Institution. Students who wish to apply will have a Naviance account opened by the College Admissions Counseling Office. Students applying for Early Decision or Early Action consideration should complete their applications by late October. Applications for Regular Decision close on January 1 of the following year and applicants must ensure that all the necessary documents are submitted by early December in order to ensure their application is completed.
Please note that the Naviance account allows the College Admissions Counselors to track and submit students' application materials (e.g. teacher's evaluations, e-transcripts) and applicants should request teachers' and counselor's evaluations through Naviance. However, applicants will still have to complete their applications to the colleges via the Common Application website.
both RI & HCI has an in-house 'University Admission / Placement Office or Dept\"
I believe every year there a number of RI students who managed to obtain uni offer of places even before the A level exam / results (from the open house talk by the P)
And HCI also updated their website with the following :

DVL:
NUSH encourages their Y5 & Y6 students to take SAT and AP (Advanced Placement) examinations. To gain experience, the school also encourages Y4 students to take PSAT (Preliminary SAT) exams. The school will send our circulars to students to remind students to register for such exams. NUSH has a dept, College Counselling, which provides assistance and support to students for their Uni education. For the first 3 batches of graduating students, some had gained entrance to overseas Uni before they finished their Y6 at NUSH.
Thanks, DVL, for the info.
I remembered during the talk NUSH's principal did say that most of their students also take some US College entrace exam apart from their diploma.ngbrdad:

Ya, talking about SAT, will e IP schools arrange for e kids to take it during their 6 years there?
Not sure whether it's SAT or not. -

Paddy field, :congrats:Congrats to all who hear from ACSI.
I rec'd phone call to attend the principal talk this Friday too. Did not expect to get this as I thought most of their slots will be given to he ACSP and ACSJ boys.
DS likes the IB program but I cannot imagine having to cope w 2 CCAs in the midst of such heavy workload.
Any parents has any feedback on this?
What does your DS like about the IB Prog & choose it over others???
One of the 2 CCAs include uniform group & most of the uniform group requires training twice per wk. So with another CCA, most likely he has to stay back 3 times per wk. -

Gleemom, thks for the info. Have been hearing a lot of ACSI about being \"rich man\" son sch. Finally hearing sthg fm someone from the sch. This really put me at ease. Personally, I prefer ACSI than NUSH. Was thinking mayb ask my DS to try ACSI DSA next year. However, almost none of his classmate is interested in ACSI. All going crazy with NUSH. Furthermore, DS doesn't like CCA, esp uniform groups... So, not sure whether he'll put it as one of his choice. Of course, have to depend on his grade too. Will definitely bring him to ACSI open house.Actually the 'materialism' thing featured in our minds too when DS got the ACSI CO. Frankly, I think there are more well-to-do families in ALL IP schools. This is likely because the parents are usually more concerned about their children's studies, and can afford enrichment classes or spend more time coaching their children. If you look at the cars that go to schools like RI, RGS, ACSI, MGS, HCI, NYGH, you will know what I mean. Having said that, because ACSI IB program is purely on merit with no affiliation points, the boys do come from all walks of life. No worries about that. Mine came from a neighbourhood school.
As to discipline problems, I have not heard or seen anything so far that concern me. It is a boys' school, so boys will be boys. Of course, there are Year 5 & 6 girls in the campus as well.
Btw, since you say IB prog is purely on merit, does it mean it'll not give priority to ACSP? Which means everyone has equal chance??? -
