No need to wonder! I have long ago gave my rationale for my change in position with regard to changes after accepting the CO.

Last year my DS also same situation, among the top in smops platinum ranking etc, got international awards in others cca, though he got HCI CO, he later used his psle to appeal in to RI, we got phone call from RI right after the psle result was submitted to RI
So please tell you son to cheong psle and aim for RI
Sure got hope, don't forget the other half of RI intake is via psle
The schools made it very clear to me they welcome it and they facilitate it. You got to experience it to realize how helpful they are.

Not sure if it's true, but my ds2 said that his classmate who has RI CO was not given HCI CO. This boy has Platinum for SMOPS.
It seems that even a SMOPS platinum doesn't seem to impress RI consistently, at least for last and this year. In fact, has RI ever issued a CO on math? I wonder -

Seemed like only the GEP students getting the CO from HCI. Anyone from the mainstream receiving the CO/WL from HCI too? I know it is near zero for mainstream to DSA to RI?.
My ds' classmate is from mainstream with CO from RI. -

Can it be the GEP kids that were rejected by HCI did badly in their Chinese ?
