hi to all highly excited parents here,

May I know wat is this dsa all about? have been reading this on and off but could not finish it off..too much to absorb.. ha

Can someone out there be kind enough to brief me wat is it? is this for P6 students only? (keke..my eldest boy is only K2 this yr, abit too kiasu ya?!)
wat ways can we apply thru this dsa thingy? by results, must be at the top class with superb results? if by sports or music, wat criteria is required? which sport is being highly sought after? If son's pri sch is a neighbourhood one, is there a chance? need to find out more abt this...tks!!

DSA is for P6 students for entry to secondary schools of their choice. As your eldest is only K2, I suggest you relax and not be too worried about this. Reason being there are changes to DSA over the years, and for all you know, the rules may change. Also, what is sought after now may not be sought after by then.

What's more important is to ensure your kid enjoys school and enjoys whatever sports / music activities / CCA he is engaged in subsequently. If that works in his favor for DSA, it is a bonus. If you are gonna start working at using any of these for DSA, you might be disappointed (if it turns out otherwise) and the effort and stress may be more than what you and your kid are prepared for. Kids excel in whatever they are interested in, not forced to do it for the sake of achieving what parents want.

tks pen88n for ur advice! yeah its still a looong way for me and ya, a no no to force my boy to do watever he doesnt like, which I nvr did and will nvr do. Just purely want to know more abt it. Tks again!
Nissin,
Vlim has provided a link to MOE website on general info of DSA, so you can read up about it. Nearer the time, when your DS is in P5, you can come back to this thread and read up on what is \"hot\" - maybe that will give you a better idea to prep for P6 πŸ˜‰ For now, all the best in prepping DS for P1!

I have made some calculation for you. Assuming we hit 2000 page next year, and if you start now reading 1 page per day, you should be very familiar with DSA by the time your DS reach P6.
In academic domain, the assessment will be based on P4-6 results. Build up a good portfolio of MO, SO and other awards along the way. Get into GEP will give the child some advantage. The other quality is leadership. Your child probably have to be an octopus of all trades by P6. So start yours young, as in now! And enjoy the journey while you are at it.

Hi nissin , u may like to read the above link to have an idea of dsa. In short, dsa is mainly for students who are academically ourtstanding or very good in sports with national awards or those who are in gep.. Those who apply dsa got to take GAT, tests and/or interviews as require by the secondary school which they apply dsa. πŸ˜„....thereafter...very important ...come to ksp forum to see who have received the dsa letter oleady.. πŸ˜‚
hi vlim,
Tks sooo much for the explanation..Now I know roughly what is this all abt already.

Wow, kind of stressful isnt it for u guys? Anyway, here's
A BIG :congrats:
to all parents & their kids who have received their letters and πŸ™ that the letters will come soon for those who are still awaiting!!

 :yikes: and as time goes by, this thread will grow exponentially  In abt 2 years' time, parents will have to start reading your proposed 1 page a day once their baby is born :scared: :nailbite: , just to be sure they are familiar (in fact very familiar) with DSA :faint:
