SOTA is meant for those who truly excel in performing / visual arts and who wish to focus in that area when they grow up.

Not meant for those who are still undecided between mainstream school or specialised training from the age 13 but still excel in arts. This group can opt for Art Elective or Music Elective in those IP schools without killing the interest / talent

But I thought SOTA provides good general academics as well, so that the child would not compromise on having to spend time on his art/music.

don't know leh, what u said seems to be the case for AEP / MEP in mainstream / IP schools.

however in another discussion somewhere in ksp, if want to transfer from SOTA to mainstream school, must step down one year, meaning academic subjects are at different level....

Medical Faculty - but of course depends on their academic performance in IB eventually, I guess!

I must say though that when I accompanied a friend's child for audition at SOTA, I didn't find the standards all that high & mighty. I think to enter RI or RGS under DSA music(MEP) is way tougher!

          Hi,

My girl is currently in p3. she start the chinese dance cca since p2 and recently take another cca -badminton. she likes both cca, but two cca timing is conflicting with each other. so we have to chose 1. outside of school she also have ballet.

The fact is that school chinese dance win gold every year while badminton team is 2nd runner up.

I am wondering which cca to chose in order to have higher chance (benefit) to apply DSA in p5. Any suggestion?

            Gal Hmmmmmm ....
Heard from My Friend whose dd try for NYGH Chinese Dance a Couple of years ago,
Found out that only select 2 out of 200+ applicants ....
Very Tough Selection Criteria, Or MayB Quota very Few that Year ....
Using Dance for DSA is Quite Tough ....

For Badminton, is She in the School Team?
Good Chance of DSA IF Got Win Medals in Inter-school, etc ....
Also U Got to See if School U May B interested in with DSA-Sports have Badminton or Not ....

By the Way, DSA is For P6 only ....
U Still Got 2 years, P3 & P4, to Decide (P5, P6 Don't Count - Coz Got to Get Results for These 2 years to Show to DSA Panel) ....

            U R One Forward Thinking Mummy ....

                  Thanks for replying my post.

nope, she just started badminton, not been chosen to be in the school team yet.

I heard that DSA only consider if the child alone win medal. if whole team win medal, it doesn't count. Is that true?
so, what kind of medal must win to consider good? gold/silver/bronze or 1st/2nd runner up?

The Top Medal Winners is Always an Advantage, and Sought after by Schools.

But Individually, to B Among the Top 8 Placing (as Individual competitor) in the Interschool Competition is a Rough Gauge ....

Just a Small Tip U could Try - Get Your Gal to Train under the Sec School Coach U Interested in. Many of Them Conduct External Lessons. IF They R Familiar with Your Gal's Skill and R Convinced of Her Potential, Got Almost a Pre-Audition Chance Already ....

Or Better Still, Join the S'pore National Team! 😉 😉
With the Kind of Intensive training they conduct, up to 6 days a week throughout Primary school (During Holidays, as Well), Sure to Get Results.
Provided U willing to let your child spend this amount of time without affecting their studies ....

Anyway, Most Coaches Know Each other in S'pore Schools - In Fact Some Of them Even Sourced Early in the Inter-school Competition to Sport Talent and / or Get FeedBack from Primary School Team Coach ....

So If U wish to Get into the DSA-Sports Route, Invest Some Time to Get to Know Your Child's Coach, Learn from them the Necessary Requirement and Whether your Child Stand A Chance for DSA.
Some of them Can Even Recommend Which of the Sec Schools Got Better Chance For DSA, Basing on Your Child's Skill Level ....

Some of my friends told me that distinction is required from grade 1-5 but my dd scored Grade 1,2,4 in distinction but only 73 for G3 and 70 for G5, and she didn't take up jazz and Chinese dance lesson before.
