Agreed. NUSH and NJC more level playing field for mainstreamers and GEPpers. However, the numbers are still pretty \"scary\": NUSH - >2000 applicants for 150 COs, NJC - >700 applicants for 40 COs.

      .

NJC only gave out 40 COs this year?! That's v few. How many in their total intake per year?

Seems that previous years they gave more but a lot of the COs were not taken up in the end.
So this year apparently anyone with a CO or WL elsewhere were not offered any CO, and they scrapped the WL as well.
So only 40 CO were given out.

Will be interesting to see how many they take in via S1 and whether the COP may be lowered.[/quote]ngbrdad,
Just curious, how did NJC known which kid has CO already? I understand from the teachers in DS2's school that even MOE does not know (initially) who is given CO. In fact, the teachers in DS2's school needs to check with each child in the GEP if they received CO just before PSLE, so that they can report to GE branch at MOE.

OIC.. so your DS' dream fruit is du-RI-an, from England! Yes, it is indeed the King of Fruits!!!

But now, I am a little worried as your DS has exercised his option and put Apple (ACSi WL) as his 1st choice. What if Apple WL turns into a CO on PSLE result day? Read (in this forum) that it is more difficult, if not impossible, for pupils to appeal to another better school, even if they
        achieve high scores for PSLE?

        I may be wrong, hopefully...
        Firefly38,
DS2 is quite worried too. He only received CO from NJC, but he really want to go Hwa Chong. His teacher warned him that this year they will not entertain appeal if he accepts the CO from NJC. But I reasoned with him that the loss will be greater if he did not accept the CO and fail to get into Hwa Chong or NJC at S1 posting. We told him that NjC only gave out 40 CO (thanks to info shared by ngbrdad)' so he shd be happy that he received one. So he finally accepted the NJC CO. But I know deep down, he still wishes to go Hwa Chong, if only to prove to his teachers that he can make it. This year has been really a stressful year for him. His health is also affected as he had not been eating well, and he is now anaemic. As parents, while we are both Hwa Chong Alumni, we hope NJC will be less stressful for him for the next 6 years!

MOE definitely knows which CO or WL a kid has.
Or else how could they list down the CO and WL on the DSA form ?

But mOE would probably not know the full list at the point of the NJC interview that you are talking about.

In the case of MOE, even if they knows (which I doubt they do at that point), why should they share the info with NJC? If they do that, all schools may start asking for it and there will be no end.......

They just probably asked the kids during the interview which other schools they tried for and which ones they’ve heard back from.

                  Jtoh,
DS2 confirmed that at the NJC interview, they did ask him which other schools he applied for DSA and why he decided to apply to these schools. But at the time of the interview, the Hwa Chong DSA CO result was not out yet, neither did NJC ask him if he has received any other COs.

I got the info thru someone's posting on this thread around the time the NJC DSA results came out.
So far no one has mentioned on this thread about anyone who has a CO from NJC plus another school.

This could be because NJC does not have a school based gifted programme like RI, HCI, NUSH and ACSI. In DS2's school, most of his GEP classmates apply to RI, HCI and NUSH because of their special programs for GEPers. In DS2's case, we went for the 2 schools that DS2 liked and was comfortable with after attending their talks.
