Should be ok lah. But your boy wants to join String Orchestra/Ensemble? Or he wants Band/Chinese Orchestra(CO)? Bc for Band/CO, he'd need to spend some time learning the instrument of his choice - although most school groups will have instructors providing training during CCA time.
a little :offtopic: here...
Not seriously intending to use CCA as DSA, but I am wondering if popular CCAs such as bands or orchestras will accept students at P4. This is one concern I have when considering if we should return earlier than planned. I have the impression that one must join these CCAs from P3 or even earlier... -
Hi phankao,
Yes, he would very much prefer String Ensemble. He enjoyed palying in the Ensemble here. But there aren’t many schools having String Ensemble, right? CHS and NYPS are the only ones I know that have String Ensemble. Do you know of any around Upper Bt Timah and Bt Batok? -

Maybe you can take a look at this list from last year's Primary school SYF. It may not show ALL the schools having string groups, but it at least shows the schools that have sent String Groups to participate in the Festival.Hi phankao,

i believe it is more inclusion criteria, rather than exclusion criteria.

I agree. I hope that i won't have stones thrown at me for saying this....
I think NJC maybe looking for team players rather than individual performers. Just a hunch after talking to DS2 about what they did and talked about. Just a hunch.....that's all. -
from DS’s interview at NJC, they were looking for independent thinkers and also ability to stand up for what one believes in, despite contrarian views from the others.

dS2 had similiar experience. He was told off by team mates for something which he was doing, but he persisted. They actually picked that up and asked him the reason for his action at the interview. -
About the NJC interview, there were so many rooms with so many different panels as it was all done in one afternoon.
Some panels finish very fast, some took a long time with the kids waiting up to few hours for their turn.
Not a very fair process to start with. -
Thank you so much, phankao.
it is very, very useful.

din know got so many different type of CCAs before.
now can tell which school strong in which CCA.
good to expose child to music CCA, then next time can pursue music elective in Secondary school.
btw, which CCA involve much more time to practise - guzheng or violin ?
each week, spend 2 hours enough or much more time ? -
