Hershey:
Hi,
My DD is in Sec 2 and I need advice whether Pure History or Pure Geo is a better Choice.
She is very confused and hope to hear more from others.
I don't think there is such thing as better choice. Its more purely on where the interest lies in.
Both my children don't like Geog n much prefer History. However I heard that its easier to score in Geog than History. Don't know if its true or not. -

Hi
Based on feedback from my kids, its more difficult to score for Humanities becos its very subjective n content heavy. However, my concern is that if you don't take 2 Humanities but just 1 and if you do badly for the 1 subject for O Levels, wont it affect yr L1R5 score becos 1 Humanities subject is required?
I've the same concern as you. My DS is is considering 3S/1H or 2S/2H.
Our preference is 2S/2H cos we're worried if he chooses 3S...then he must do well in the 1H as it is required in the R5. :? -
Hi Everyone,
I have gotten back my results today and they are as follows:
History - 68 (B3)
Geography - 60 (B4)
English - 59 (C5)
Higher Chinese - 56 (C5)
Science - 54 (C6)
Math - 42 (E8)
Total - 339/600
The English and Higher Chinese papers were exceptionally difficult this time round which resulted in quite a dip in my results. My History and Geography helped to cover that patch. Passing my science came in as much of a surprise.
The above forementioned results are only Term 4. Overall, my English is around 67, so I am able to take English Literature. Higher Chinese also stands in at 64. History may be pulled down a bit and Geography doesn't get pulled up or down much. Science stands in at a fortunate 51 (Luckily I passed)
I have also submitted my subject combinations as follows:
L1 - English Language
R1 - Higher Chinese
R2 - History Elective & Social Studies
R3 - Pure English Literature
R4 - E Math & A Math
R5 - Appealing for Double Science - Chemistry + Biology; may go into Chemistry + Physics Combined Science instead.
Thanks everyone for your help
Now I'm just wishing for the best that I'll get the subject combination I want - and probably Double Science as well, mainly because I hate Physics and my school doesn't offer Biology in Combined Science -
Selfan4everβ₯23:
Sorry, I do not quite understand you. Your combi put up is a 2 Science 2 Human combi. If you drop the Lit in the combi and replace with a Bio, you are changing this to a 3 Science 1 Human combi. Is that what you want - to do more Science? Your O Level L1R5 will require one of your R5 to be Human, so if you are left with 1 Human, you must be very sure you can score very well in that Human subject.
Ok Thank you so much
:thankyou:
One more question though, is it better to take bio or lit as my eighth subject? Why? -
can someone advise me? i am sec 2 this year and i do not know if pure chem is better or combined sci(chem and physics)
-
If you do not take pure chem, physics or bio for O Levels, you cannot take those subjects for A levels. That is to say, combined science does not allow you to take Science subjects at A levels.
However, generally combined science is easier in content depth compared with pure sciences, so it is easier to score high grades. This works well with students who intend to go Poly as it will help them to get higher scores to choose popular courses in Poly. Poly courses normally do not require to have pure sciences. -

Hi neocat,
You might want to do a trial period of 6 months for the pure sciences before you decide if you want to drop to combined science, of course you will have to prove your worth first to keep your place in pure sciences. -

Hi neocat,
My school offers this \"trial period\", you may want to check with your science teacher or form teacher in your school as well if they do offer this. But whatever you do, consult your parents first so they can help you to make a better choice.
Good luck in getting the subject combination you want

Hi.
Just wanna ask⦠I am in a fix as to whether I should take Triple Pure Science or just stick to a Double Pure Science. I will be Sec 3 next year (2014) and would like to know the benefits of taking Triple Pure (including Pure Biology).
Is Pure Biology really that important? Please let me know ASAP.
