I would support and trust him, if he so wishes. Is his grades, above the mean/medium for his cohort?[/quote]
I’ve no idea ! School did not release the above information

Hm.. if he is confident of doing well, I’ll definitely give support. Are there many classes of triple science? Maybe u can ask on that IP school’s thread.

My DS is in Y2 IP and an “all rounder “. Last years he scored above 80 for all subjects (except HCL around 70). No specific dislike or like regarding Chem bio and physics and scores all very close too .
He is keen to take triple science but I’m worried about the workload as he also has an elective , which means he would be taking 10 subjects ! On the other hand , I wonder if it’s possible to go ahead since he is not taking Os and he enjoys the breadth of his education. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you !
If he takes 2 sciences, does it mean that he will have 9 subjects? Or will he be taking something else instead? If he will still be taking 10 subjects, then there's little difference, I think. If the choice is between 9 and 10 subjects, some are able to handle 10, and you can ask him if he thinks he can, and you could perhaps consult one of his science teachers for another opinion. Is there a possibility that he can drop one subject after a term or 2 if he feels it's too much?

Yes there are quite a number of triple science classes . He shouldn’t have a problem getting the combi he wants . Just not sure how much more the workload will be compared to now.

Hi! If he takes 2 sciences he will be taking 9 subjects . 3 sciences will mean 10subjects . He feels he can as he is coping now but I would think 10 subjects would be a heavier workload compared to Y2 now .
Not sure if they are allowed to drop one subject later on, will check, thanks for the suggestion .

Can also consider the school's yearly GPA/MSG calculation and what is needed to qualify for JC classes/programmes. I.e. if you have 10 subjects but don't need to put all of them in the yearly calculation there is more leeway to give something else a try (out of interest, curiosity, etc). If workload is heavy or like something else more once you get into it, can focus time and efforts on what is deemed more important and just try your best on 1 or 2 that won't be impacting anything. In contrast, if need to put all 10 subjects in the calculation, then need to find a way to manage without it dragging down the average (or key subjects).

It varies from kid to kid but my impression is that the other jump in Sec 3 (besides the increase in number of classes) is increased time commitment in leadership (house/council, CCA, etc) or extra projects/enrichment (sometimes related to specific classes or programmes).

Perhaps you can share with him that it’s also important to also focus on his leadership skills, CCA, social life and having fun.. to strike a balance. Good luck!

Most schools will allow you to drop a subject or two if you don’t cope well. Don’t worry. It’s just that.. to do 10 subjects requires a whole load of commitment and literally no life. Do note that he will only need that 4-6 subjects for Year5-6 in Jc. I rather be a master, than a jack of all trades.

I feel that Sec school is still considered “basic” education so being a Jack of all trades is acceptable to me . In fact Im rather happy he enjoys a wide variety of subjects . 😬 While the humanities are slightly easier for him he also enjoys the sciences and I would rather not pigeon hole him by saying he shouldn’t do triple science .

Iirc he doesn’t need to put all subjects in the calculation . Should be L1R5. Thanks for the reminder about other commitments, appreciate it
