Secondary 2 Streaming

How does streaming next year go? Is it advisable to choose triple science over double science ? How many subjects can a student choose up to ?
-
Is it very difficult to choose a subject combination?
What if the child is good at memorizing things ( that may help for bio ,history , and goeg) but not that good at subjects that need thinking ( for example, maths, physics, etc ) ? If the child is offered triple science, should she take it up ? Or should she choose double science instead? -
A better tomorrow:

The criteria for streaming, the subjects to take, etc will depend on the principal, the standard of the students and the school resources.
Most schools will conduct briefing to parents & students in Feb or Mar. Hence it is important for parents to attend the briefing session so as to understand more about the streaming process. -

i realized many parents here mentioned to try to take A math....my boy did ok for his math this year (sec 1)...hope he can continue with his hard work and select a good combination next year. -

Please try and take amath if you can. Most JCs do not allow students to take H2 math if they did not take amath in secondary. Even if the JC allows (I think only 2-3 do), without amath foundation you will struggle really badly unless you do your own amath studying post o levels in prep for JC.

If I am not mistaken, I think both A n E Maths are compulsory subjects for Sec 3. This is so for my kids' schools. Not sure if its the same for all schools.
Sorry hor! There is no such thing as a good combination. All combinations are good so long as the kid is strong n love the subjects that he chose. -

It really depends on whether the child is strong enough in Maths to take and get a decent grade in H2 Maths at A level at all. If the child show weakness in Sec 2, it is likely that he will struggle a lot with A Maths, and even more with H2 Maths, and it will take up time and energy which could be better used for his stronger subjects. I think it is sometimes useful to look at the issue from the angle of the child's ability (can he do it? is he interested in it?) rather than from the career angle (he can't be a \"xx\" if he didn't take H2 Maths). He will probably be a poor \"xx\" if Maths is necessary but he isn't strong in it. For such a child, it may be better to look towards another career path that doesn't involve Maths. My older daughter has always found Maths tough, and struggled with E Maths (she didn't do A Maths). We realised this early on, and we never even tried to get her to do A Maths as we knew it would be a huge and time-consuming struggle. So there are career doors closed to her, but there are still others more to her liking. -
I was informed that taking A math would be advantageous for certain courses…son is struggling with geography as it is. what is impt is he must do well and choose subjects of his interest at the end of sec 2.

He can try History or Literature, if he is struggling with Geography. Both my kids hate Geography so they dropped this subject during streaming time.
