Hi! Below are my results. I am intending to opt for Pure Sci but pure sci must be taken with a math. I am not sure if i can cope with a math. i’m strong in sci but very weak in math.ive been failing math since sec 1. the criteria for pure sci is that maths and sci must be above 70%. my cher says i have no chance of taking pure sci since i fail math even though my sci is quite good. i find this very unfair. incase i do not get accepted, how do i appeal?
i am intending to go jc and do not wish to take combined sci.

As you go further in science, maths becomes more important. There is quite a lot calculations involved. Have a look at 'O’Leary level books and think again. You are unlikely to manage well in science if you can’t manage maths.

What do you plan to study in JC ? It will help you in deciding what subjects to take in Sec 3 and 4.Hi! Below are my results. You can consider doing Pure Bio and Pure Chem without A Maths if you are weak in Maths. This is what my niece did last time and luckily the school offered such combination.
If you go JC and do Science stream, you will definitely do Maths C. Without A Maths foundation, you will struggle with Maths C. -

you should talk to your teachers and seniors to find out more this subject. i believe it is consider a course work, hence like Arts and DnT, it can be very time consuming. You need to do 1 or 2 sports and plan how to conduct relevant activites. It is not like Pure Sciences or Humanities subjects when you just need to read tonnes of notes, understand and memorise them.
sorry does anyone knows anyone who takes o pe ?is o pe difficult?
do check out how this subject can be used in the O level computation, which category it falls under.
you may want to consider doing 2 lang, 2 pure sciences + 2 maths + 1 humanities + pe combination. yiu must then ensure your humanities is good enough for you to go JC. -

perhaps do pure geog with ss/hist. doing 2 humanities is like having a backup.Hello... So i'll be having my streaming this year and in my sch its compulsory to have Chem as one of your Sciences meaning to say the Sciences choices are Phy Chem , Chem Bio or Triple Sci...
My school's sci curriculum is a bit different from other schools and semester 1 we finished chem (did half of it in sec 1) and started a bit on physics (continuing this semester) & so far i'm doing fine scoring an A in myes and common tests.
The only humans i have a huge interest in and is exceptionally talented in it is geog. lit im definitely not opting as i barely managed to pass this semester. i tend to keep getting bored and falling asleep during history. so does this mean that my only 'good' choice is Triple Sci + Elect Geog???
However, i did quite lousy for bio (which was taught in sec 1) or maybe because my studying attitude wasnt really good back then so Im not sure if I shd choose triple sci. But i definitely prefer physics over bio.
SO HOW?!?!? Im really stressed and worried as I do not want to end up in a subject combi I do not like. Please give me advice, thank you:DDDD
also you may want to check with your teacher whether you can do 2 pure sciences with one humanities so that you have lesser subjects to focus. of course this means your teacher will have headache on what you can do when your classmates are doing the 2nd humanities. -

You need not worry anything!
Let’s analyse your scores as followed. Let’s group your subjects into: Language, humanity subjects, math and sciences, the average scores for them:
Language (Eng, MT, Lit): 73.0
Humanities (His, Geo, FCE, Art):87.5
Math: 48
Sciences (Sc, DNT): 82.5
Typically, language subjects are very difficult to score over 75%, hence your language capabilities are more than excellent! This together with your outstanding performance in humanity subjects, indicates that you have a very good language mastery and linguistic-based analytic skills. The latter conclusion is further evidenced by your high score in science. This is because Lower Sec sciences are typically at the conceptual or linguistic-based analytic levels, with very minimal use of math. In contrast to this linguistic-analytic skills, your numerical analytic skills seem not measuring up equally. Hence, your worry.
But let’s ask one fundamental question: what is the purpose of the school? One word: training! Your strong language capabilities must the result of a very good language training in your Primary years (you don’t realise it, you should go back to thank your language teachers!), plus of course your love of readings (you don’t realise it either, thank your parents!)! School is precisely there to train human talents for the great good of the nation and even the world! It is precisely your weakness in math that needs rigorous training. To me, other than languages, math is the single most important subject in the secondary years that every student must learn and master, for it builds the foundation for all if not the great majority of subjects in university which can realise the “greater good” for the nation or the world! You are within the top 3% of your school cohort, means you have the more than sufficient means (IQ) to tackle math subjects in school, otherwise something is very wrong with your school! If you cannot do it, 90% of Singaporean will not!
Math, in fact is much more easy to learn compare to the conceptual subject like physics. There was a research revealing that student complete thousands physics calculation problems would still flounder in conceptual problems (can read my threads)! Math is relatively easy because it is a recipe- or routine-based subject (I mean in secondary to JC levels). You just need to follow 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 steps and do more of the similar variety problems, you can solve most of the questions (A2 could be assured, may be not A1).
For your future success, you must aim to take Elementary and Add Math! Do not be over-shadowed by your lack of training in math during your primary years, you have more than enough materials to excel in these subjects! That I am absolutely sure! -
my daughter is in NA. next year she will be in sec 2. if she does well enough to choose subject combination with E and A math, will she still be doing these subjects at NA standard?

Usually if the student does \"NA\" A maths , she will needs to do \"O\" level E Maths. -
